The Los Angeles Lakers may need to get inventive if they want to upgrade the roster in the coming weeks, and a new three-team trade idea gives them a path to do it.
The Lakers are short on assets, but if they can bundle what they do have, there’s at least a route to land a useful player. One name that has been floated as a target is P.J. Washington, though bringing him in would likely require a hefty price and, as this idea suggests, help from a third team.
In the proposed deal, the Lakers would receive P.J. Washington and Max Christie.
The Cavaliers would get Bronny James via TMLE.
The Mavericks would land Jarred Vanderbilt, Jake LaRavia, Dalton Knecht and a 2023 second-round pick via SAC.
“The trade would allow the Lakers to reunite with Max Christie, a player who flashed a lot of potential before being moved to the Dallas Mavericks as part of the Dončić trade. Furthermore, the move would reunite Dončić with P.J. Washington - who played a key role in helping the Mavericks reach the 2024 NBA Finals,” Sai Mohan wrote.
From the Lakers’ side, the cost isn’t overwhelming on paper. Jake LaRavia and Bronny James are the kind of pieces some teams might value more than others, while Dalton Knecht, Jarred Vanderbilt and the pick package don’t exactly scream blockbuster return. There also aren’t many premium draft assets involved.
Still, if Los Angeles could actually pull it off, it would be a strong outcome for the team.
