Klay Thompson’s move to the Miami Heat has brought more than a new uniform. It has reunited him with Andrew Wiggins, and Wiggins is clearly fired up about getting another run alongside a fellow champion.
Thompson, who won four titles during his Golden State Warriors years, most recently captured a championship in 2022 with Wiggins on the roster. Now the two are back together, this time with a different mission: helping Miami climb in the Eastern Conference.
Thompson spent 13 seasons with the Warriors before leaving in 2024 to join the Dallas Mavericks in free agency. He wanted to pair up with Luka Doncic, but that plan unraveled when the Mavericks traded the Slovenian superstar a few months later. That move ended the Mavericks’ championship window, and Thompson eventually pushed for a change.
After reaching a buyout with Dallas, Thompson became free to choose his next destination. He landed on Miami, and Wiggins was quick to welcome the reunion.
"He’s one of the most competitive people I played with. To have him on the squad is going to be amazing.
He’s one of one. He brings that championship mentality to the team, and this is a year that we can do something special, and he’s someone that can be a big part of it," Wiggins said about Thompson on the Heat's social media page.
Both Thompson and Wiggins figure to matter in Erik Spoelstra’s system. If they settle into their roles, Miami has a path to hanging with the top teams in the East and making a push for the NBA Finals.
