Celtics Sign 6-Foot-8 Ex-Mavericks Guard to Boost Jaylen Brown

Celtics look to Dalano Banton's unique potential and height advantage in a strategic roster move aimed at bolstering support for Jaylen Brown.

The Boston Celtics are making waves with an intriguing roster addition. They've signed a former Dallas Mavericks guard known for his unique place in NBA history-he's the first player to attempt 15 threes in a game and miss them all. Standing at 6-foot-8, this player is set to bolster the lineup alongside Jaylen Brown.

Dalano Banton, currently with the Texas Legends, the Mavericks' G-League affiliate, has inked a 10-day contract with Boston. This marks his second NBA call-up this season, having recently been with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Banton is no stranger to the Celtics. He signed a two-way deal with them back in 2023, playing in 24 games. During his stint, the Nebraska alum averaged 2.3 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game, shooting 37.3% from the field and 12.5% from beyond the arc.

His journey took a turn when he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers midway through the 2023-24 season. This move saw him miss out on Boston's championship victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.

Throughout his career, Banton has put up averages of 6.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, with shooting percentages of 40.3% from the field and 30.4% from three-point range.

While Banton might not be the headline-grabbing star, he has the potential to be a valuable asset for the Celtics. If he can leverage his skills effectively, he might just surprise some folks and become a key contributor in Boston's quest for success.
