The Dallas Cowboys are expected to keep Von Miller on the sideline Saturday night when they face the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale to close out Week 2 of the NFL preseason.
Kickoff is set for 10:00 p.m. ET on NFL Network, and most of Dallas’ starters are not expected to play in the late-night matchup at State Farm Arena. That includes Miller, the team’s newest headline addition, who signed with the Cowboys earlier this week.
Miller has barely been asked to do much since arriving. His work in camp has been limited to a few reps, but even in that small sample he flashed what made him a Super Bowl MVP and future Pro Football Hall of Famer. He got after the quarterback and created pressure right away in Oxnard.
Still, Saturday does not appear to be the moment for his Cowboys debut. Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News previously said the "goal is to get him ready for Week 1."
Dallas has taken a careful approach with the 8-time Pro Bowler, but defensive coordinator Christian Parker made it clear the team likes what it has seen so far.
“Ultimate professional. Phenomenal teammate.
And obviously he can still get after the quarterback and play at a high level as an all down player," Parker said of Miller. "We’re not really putting a cap on what could be this year, we’re gonna let that kind of handle it itself.
But we definitely feel good about that edge room and feel good about the addition.”
For now, the wait continues. The Cowboys have their new pass-rush weapon in the building, but fans will likely have to hold off until the regular season to see Miller fully unleashed.
