Stephen A. Smith Sounds Off On Jerry Jones Decision

Stephen A. Smith calls out Jerry Jones for his controversial approach in contract talks with George Pickens, raising concerns about disregard for player-agent dynamics.

Jerry Jones is making waves again with his approach to contract negotiations involving wide receiver George Pickens. The Dallas Cowboys owner has expressed a desire to negotiate directly with Pickens, bypassing his agent, which has stirred up quite a bit of controversy in the NFL community.

On "First Take" this Wednesday, Stephen A. Smith didn't mince words when addressing Jones' comments about his dealings with Pickens and his agent. Smith was visibly upset, criticizing Jones for his approach.

"I'm very disturbed by what Jerry Jones said," Smith remarked. "I plan to reach out to him because what I heard makes me uncomfortable."

Smith pointed out the reactions of reporters present during Jones' comments, noting their discomfort. Despite his admiration for Jones, Smith made it clear that he found the situation troubling.

George Pickens is represented by David Mulugheta of Athletes First, the same agent who was involved in last offseason's contract talks with Micah Parsons. Jones had previously suggested negotiating directly with Parsons, which ultimately hindered the deal.

Stephen A. Smith emphasized that Jerry Jones should acknowledge the expertise of David Mulugheta. Smith highlighted Mulugheta's reputation as one of the top agents in the industry, urging Jones to recognize his standing.

"David Mulugheta is not just any agent," Smith stated. "He's recognized as one of the best in the business. This is someone players can trust with their careers."

Jones' attempts to circumvent agent-player relationships have caught significant attention across the league. While the NFLPA has yet to take action, the potential penalties for such infractions remain minimal.
