One of the clearest early signs of progress in Cowboys camp has come from Shavon Revel Jr., and it showed up again during Saturday’s practice in Oxnard.
Dallas entered camp with plenty of attention on its cornerback room after a 2025 season in which the secondary graded out as one of the worst units in the league and surrendered some historical bad numbers through the air. The additions of Caleb Downs, Cobie Durant, Derion Kendrick, and Devin Moore only raised expectations that the group could take a real step forward in 2026.
Revel Jr. is a major part of that conversation. The second-year corner has still had his share of tough moments against George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, but Saturday offered a better look at the growth he’s showing during his first full offseason and training camp.
Early in practice, Revel Jr. was locked in on Pickens down the left sideline in the red zone. Pickens still hauled in a ridiculous catch, even with tight coverage, which is the kind of play that can rattle a young defensive back. Instead, Revel Jr. kept moving and answered the next time the ball came his way.
Not long after, Dak Prescott tried to squeeze a pass to Pickens in the back of the end zone, but Revel Jr. stayed in perfect position and showed impressive ball skills to knock it away for a touchdown-saving PBU.
That kind of response matters in a camp battle that has become one of the most competitive on the roster. Revel Jr. is fighting Cobie Durant for the starting outside corner job opposite DaRon Bland, with Caleb Downs expected to serve as the third corner in nickel looks. Both Revel Jr. and Durant have made plays in coverage, and neither has created much separation yet.
The Cowboys’ pass defense didn’t just struggle because the top of the cornerback depth chart lacked talent last season. They also didn’t have much behind it.
The top end of the room still may not feature a true difference-maker, but training camp has at least given Dallas a better-looking group overall. Through two weeks of practices, Revel Jr. has done enough to stand out as one of the corners making that case.
