The Maxx Crosby-to-Dallas chatter is still alive, and the latest update has only kept the Cowboys in the conversation.
Crosby remains one of the biggest names floating around trade rumors as the Raiders weigh whether to move their star pass rusher before the deadline. Dallas has repeatedly come up as a possible landing spot, and that makes sense given Jerry Jones’ history of chasing headline-grabbing additions. The question is whether Las Vegas would ever be willing to part with a player who has become one of the franchise’s centerpieces.
The production is easy to understand. Crosby put together another dominant season with 73 tackles, 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception, and six passes defended.
Over 110 games, he has piled up 439 tackles and 69.5 sacks. At 28, he’s still right in the middle of his prime, and his five Pro Bowl selections only underline how consistently he’s performed.
For Dallas, the fit is obvious on paper. The Cowboys need more juice rushing the passer after recent roster changes, and Crosby would immediately raise the ceiling of that defense.
He wouldn’t have to carry the unit by himself, either. The idea is that he would slot in alongside existing talent and turn the front into something much harder to deal with.
That’s the appeal Pro Football Network’s Cooper Kleinberg pointed to when he mentioned Dallas as one of the teams that could chase Crosby, with Chicago and Philadelphia also in the mix. The price, though, is the real obstacle. Crosby’s value is high, and any deal would likely take a major package of draft picks to get done, especially after a previous near-deal with another contender.
Kleinberg wrote, “Between Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens, the Cowboys already have one of the NFL’s most dangerous offenses. Adding Crosby to a defense led by Williams, Kenny Clark, DaRon Bland, and rookie Caleb Downs would make the unit even more complete,” Kleinberg wrote. “A move for Crosby would immediately make Dallas one of the favorites in the NFC next season and could mark one of Jones’ final blockbuster moves as Cowboys owner.”
Dallas does have the kind of offensive firepower that makes a defense upgrade even more tempting. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Javonte Williams and George Pickens give the Cowboys a loaded attack, and pairing that with a stronger pass rush would push the roster closer to the contender tier Jones is clearly aiming for.
Still, the Raiders get the final say, and they may not be eager to move a player who brings toughness, leadership and reliable disruption every week. The Cowboys can stay interested, but the cost has to line up with their cap and draft resources. For now, Crosby’s name keeps coming up, and the speculation isn’t going away any time soon.
