The Jets’ handling of Quinnen Williams is drawing some sharp outside criticism, and one NFL coordinator didn’t bother softening the message.
Williams was dealt to the Dallas Cowboys during the 2025 NFL season, with New York landing a first-round pick and more in the return. The move gives the Jets a long-term haul, but it also opened the door for fresh talk about whether Williams can climb back toward the level he showed earlier in his career.
That belief was front and center in Jeremy Fowler of ESPN’s defensive tackle poll, where Williams ranked highly. But the praise came with a pointed jab at the Jets from one coordinator, who said, "The Jets will knock you down," an NFL coordinator said. "The same thing happened to Leonard Williams - but I expect Quinnen to be better in Dallas, be rejuvenated a bit."
The comment was a blunt way of saying some players leave New York and find a better version of themselves elsewhere. In this case, the coordinator pointed to Leonard Williams as the comparison and suggested Quinnen Williams could follow the same path in Dallas.
Williams’ résumé with the Jets was strong: four Pro Bowls and one All-Pro selection. Still, his production dipped after a 12-sack season in 2022.
He finished with 5.5 sacks in 2023 and 6.5 in 2024. This past season, he had one sack in eight games before the trade, then added 1.5 sacks in seven games with the Cowboys.
The coordinator wasn’t saying Williams was a bad player in New York. The bigger point was that the Jets, in his view, had a way of dragging players down from their best level. That’s a harsh line, and it lands even harder because public perception has already been rough on the Jets in recent years.
