Former NFL running back Miles Sanders was arrested on June 8, 2026, in Churchill Borough, Pennsylvania, after police found him sitting motionless in a silver Lexus in the middle of William Penn Highway.
Officers said Sanders was slumped in the driver’s seat and drifting in and out of consciousness when they first approached the vehicle. After waking him, police said he appeared extremely lethargic and could not answer questions. They also reported that his breath smelled of alcohol and that his eyes were glossy.
Sanders, who had admitted to drinking, was then asked to get out of the car and complete several standardized field sobriety tests. Police said he failed to follow instructions, had trouble with balance, and showed signs of impairment. He also tested positive for alcohol on a portable breath test.
Authorities arrested Sanders for driving under the influence and careless driving. After taking him into custody, police searched the vehicle and found a sealed package of suspected marijuana products.
His attorney, Phil DiLucente, said the situation is a private matter and noted it has not yet reached the preliminary hearing stage.
Sanders entered free agency after the Carolina Panthers released him from his contract. He had spent four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, then signed a four-year deal with Carolina in 2023.
His play dropped over two difficult seasons, leading the Panthers to cut him early to save salary-cap space rather than pay his upcoming roster bonus. Sanders later signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
