Nearly a year after Micah Parsons was shipped out of Dallas, his name is still tied to the Cowboys in ways that go beyond the blockbuster trade itself. The former star pass rusher may be in Green Bay now, but he’s still leaving a mark on Dallas through the people who followed him out of the Packers’ locker room.
That includes Rashan Gary, who arrived in Dallas in March after seven seasons with Green Bay. Speaking to reporters at training camp in Oxnard on Friday, Gary said Parsons reached out to him this offseason and told him he would enjoy his time with the Cowboys.
The message clearly landed.
“So far, his words have been right," Gary said of Parsons, per Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News.
Gary’s move to Dallas came after the Packers traded him in March, and he quickly joined a defensive line that also includes longtime teammate Kenny Clark. Shortly after the deal, Gary signed a two-year, $32 million restructured contract with the Cowboys, and he’s been settling in since.
Parsons, meanwhile, is still part of the conversation even while he recovers from the torn ACL and meniscus he suffered last December against the Denver Broncos. He is expected to start the 2026 season on IR, but even during rehab this spring he made time to reach out to Gary and welcome him into his new situation.
For Dallas, Gary isn’t being asked to replace Parsons’ production. That’s not the lane. But he does have a real chance to matter under new defensive coordinator Christian Parker, and the Cowboys will need him to be a steady force if the defense is going to hold up.
Over seven seasons in Green Bay, Gary played in 106 games with 74 starts and put up 271 total tackles, 46.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles. If he can get back to the Pro Bowl level he reached in 2024, Dallas will be in a much better spot on that side of the ball.
And if Gary’s first impressions are any indication, the fit is already working. A strong season - and maybe a playoff run - would only keep that feeling going into 2027.
