One year after Micah Parsons’ exit from Dallas, the shot across the bow came from inside the family.
On Monday, Terrence Parsons Jr. used the anniversary of the blockbuster trade to poke at the Cowboys, posting the viral image of Micah Parsons stretched out on a trainer’s table during a preseason game against the Falcons last year. That moment came amid the linebacker’s contract dispute with Dallas, and Terrence Parsons Jr. added a blunt caption:
"Best thing Micah ever did to get the F outta there."
The post landed on the one-year mark of Parsons leaving the Cowboys, a breakup that followed a messy stretch of negotiations and ended with Dallas sending its star pass rusher to the Green Bay Packers. Parsons had been the No. 12 pick in 2021 and wasted no time becoming one of the franchise’s centerpiece players. Over four seasons, the three-time All-Pro piled up 256 tackles, 52.5 sacks and 63 tackles for loss, and he was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021.
The contract situation began to sour in 2024 when the Cowboys picked up Parsons’ fifth-year option. A year later, the talks broke down after multiple failed attempts to reach a new deal. Reports later said Jerry Jones and Parsons were close to an agreement, but Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, turned down the offer.
That only widened the split, and after the trainer’s table photo went viral, Jones and the Cowboys accepted Parsons’ trade request. Dallas dealt him to Green Bay for Kenny Clark and two first-round picks.
Parsons then signed a four-year, $188 million contract with the Packers, making him the then-highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history before Will Anderson Jr.’s extension with the Texans in April. In his first season with Green Bay, he played 14 games and finished with 41 tackles, 12.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss.
His season ended with a non-contact knee injury in Week 15, when he tore his ACL and damaged his meniscus. He has been rehabbing since and is expected to miss the first half of the 2026 season.
Earlier this month, Parsons offered a more encouraging update on that recovery timeline when asked at Packers training camp whether he could be ready for a Week 6 matchup against the Cowboys. His answer left the door open.
"I think it's very realistic," Parsons said. "Me and the staff, we gotta put the work in. We gotta get to the point where I'm feeling great, and we say, ‘Micah, you'll be in a really good phase.’
"Is it possible? Yes.
So I wouldn't say it's not possible, but at the same time, in these next -- how many weeks is that? Ten weeks?
Is it ten, twelve weeks from now? I don't know.
We gotta do our part to make it possible, but it's not off the board, but we gotta put the work in."
Green Bay opens its season against the Vikings on Sept. 13.
