Jerry Jones isn’t offering any hints, and that may be the point.
With George Pickens and Joey Porter Jr. both in the mix after arriving from Pittsburgh, the Cowboys owner was asked Wednesday on “105.3 The Fan” whether he plans to sit down with either player during the season to talk contract. Jones’ answer made clear he isn’t eager to open that door.
“We don’t even have to in any way," Jones said. "We have great agreements.
The agreements are in place so that I don’t even have to talk about a question like that. I’m not at all perturbed by the question but we’ve got that put to bed in terms of their business one way or the other.
Now, I wouldn’t answer as to whether or not we visit about any of their business during the season other than how they’re playing or how they’re gonna play.”
That leaves the futures of both former Steelers hanging in the same familiar spot: unresolved, and likely that way for a while.
Pickens came to Dallas last year and immediately gave the Cowboys a real boost on offense. But his situation never fully settled, because he was entering the final year of his rookie deal during the 2025 season.
The expectation was that a strong year would set him up for a major payday. Instead, Dallas put a one-year franchise tag on him this offseason, pushing the decision down the road again.
Porter’s path followed a similar track. Dallas traded for the cornerback last week after he wasn’t happy with Pittsburgh’s contract offer, specifically because the second year didn’t include as much guaranteed money. Now he’s in Dallas, finishing out his rookie contract and hoping his new team will come through with something better.
For now, Jones is staying on message - or not saying much at all.
On the field, Pickens has not produced the same kind of numbers that made him such a useful weapon in Dallas last season. He has 18 catches for 225 yards and no touchdowns.
CeeDee Lamb has more than doubled his catches and yards and has four touchdowns this season. Even so, Pickens remains a solid secondary option for Dak Prescott.
Porter, meanwhile, made his 2026 season debut on Sunday against the Houston Texans and finished with zero stats. He had missed the first three games with the Steelers because of a back issue, but he was cleared to play almost right away after arriving in Dallas last week.
Jones has never been the easiest owner to read on contract matters, and this sounds like another one he’s happy to leave alone for now. How much he says this offseason may depend on how the Cowboys finish - and whether they make the playoffs.

Cowboys Pass Rush Problems Could Revive A Reunion Fans Never Expected
Four games into the 2026 season, the Cowboys pass rush has not produced the kind of pressure this defense needs, with just four sacks so far. That kind of slow start tends to get teams looking for outside help, and Bleacher Reports Kristopher Knox has already floated a familiar name as a possible fix: Jadeveon Clowney, now with the Texans, who are also sitting at 0-4.
The idea is not exactly new in Dallas, since the Cowboys have shown interest in Clowney before, but the fit is where the conversation gets tricky. Under Christian Parker, the defense has its own structure and demands, and there are real questions about how well Clowney would slot into it if the Cowboys decided to explore a trade market that suddenly feels more urgent than expected. Cowboys Stole This Rivalry Win In A Way Texans Fans Will Hate
The Cowboys walked out of NRG Stadium with a 34-30 rivalry win over the Texans, and it came with the kind of late-game finish that tends to linger in this series. Dak Prescott found CeeDee Lamb for the touchdown that sealed it, a sequence that let Dallas leave Houston with bragging rights after a tight night in front of a split crowd feel.
Even before the final score settled in, the game had already drawn attention for a different reason when Instagram influencer Ene, better known as @truly.ene, went viral for her custom Houston Texans outfit. The look added another layer to a matchup that already had plenty of edge, and it turned the night into one of those crossover sports moments where the football result and the scene around it both got people talking. Cowboys Suddenly Face A Very Different Bucs Test On Short Rest
The Cowboys are heading into a short week on a different kind of high after surviving the Houston Texans 34-30, but the next assignment arrives fast with a Thursday night trip to Tampa Bay. What looked like a familiar showdown has shifted quickly for Dallas, with the Buccaneers now dealing with a major change under center and the Cowboys having only a few days to reset.
Baker Mayfields dislocated thumb is expected to keep him out at least three games, leaving rookie Jalon Daniels to make the start in his place. Even with that change, Tampa Bay still has enough offensive talent available to make this a tricky road test for Dallas, especially on short rest when game plans are compressed and there is little margin for error.
