Jerry Jones Just Got Hit With A Brutal Cowboys Reality Check

Skip Bayless blasts the Dallas Cowboys for their long-standing issues, blaming Jerry Jones' management style and calling for accountability within the franchise.

Skip Bayless has had enough of the Dallas Cowboys, and this time his frustration wasn’t aimed at a bad play or a rough loss. It was aimed squarely at Jerry Jones and the way he runs the franchise.

On First Take, Bayless joined Stephen A. Smith after Smith called the Cowboys “an accident waiting to happen.”

Bayless pushed that even further, saying the accident has been going on for 31 years. From there, he unloaded on a team he said lacks everything you want from a contender.

“Look, we’re a bad team with no heart, no guts, no soul, a team with no killer instinct, a team that doesn’t really care about winning because they know their kooky old coot of an owner, and I love Jerry Jones as much as you do,” Bayless said.

He doubled down moments later: “I like him as a guy. I hate him as the worst GM in pro football because at age 84, he’s still the owner and operator who said the other day, I like the way we’re trending.

That’s exactly what’s wrong with my Dallas Cowboys, because you’re sending the message that you’re patting them on the head and saying, it’s okay, we’re okay. We all live in the country club out in Frisco at the Star.

And it’s going to be okay whether we win, lose, or draw because I own the most valuable team in all of sports. And I’m already in the Hall of Fame, and once upon a time, way back when, I won not one or two, I won all three Super Bowls that my team’s played in.”

Bayless also described the Cowboys as the biggest soap opera in sports, and he put that directly on Jones. His point was simple: after three decades without real success, Jones keeps saying things that shine a spotlight on the team, and Bayless believes that matters more to him than winning.

The rant landed with the kind of force only a longtime Cowboys critic can deliver. Bayless may not be a favorite in Dallas circles, but plenty of Cowboys fans likely nodded along as he ripped into the organization.

He pointed to a roster full of talent and said the problem is coaching, which he blamed on Jones’ belief that paying for a good coach does not lead to wins. He also said fans are demanding accountability while Jones keeps praising the direction of the franchise.

For Bayless, Jones defending the coaching staff and talking up the team after their most embarrassing loss of the year says everything. And as long as Jones remains the most visible face of the organization, Bayless made clear he doesn’t see much hope for change.

Cowboys Frustration With Brian Schottenheimer Is Getting Harder To Ignore

The Cowboys left Sunday with 30 points on the board and still had plenty to sort through after a loss to the Cardinals, because the number alone did not tell the story of how the offense functioned. CeeDee Lamb made it clear afterward that execution was not where it needed to be, and the fact that three of those points came on field goals only sharpened the frustration around an attack that never quite played with the urgency Dallas needed.

Dak Prescott also pointed to a lack of aggression in the late-game approach, a comment that lands squarely in the middle of the growing scrutiny around Brian Schottenheimer. The criticism is not just about one conservative sequence or one play call, but about a broader pattern of cautious decision-making and design choices at key moments, the kind of thing that tends to linger when a team keeps coming up short in games it feels it should have controlled. Von Miller Just Warned Cowboys Fans About This Colts Trap Game

The Cowboys are trying to steady themselves at 3-5 after the loss to Arizona, and the timing of their next game makes the margin for error feel even thinner. Indianapolis comes in at 2-6, but the record alone does not tell the whole story, especially with the Colts in the middle of roster changes and a roster that could look different soon.

Von Miller called the Colts a scary opponent for that reason, noting how players on a team in that kind of spot can be motivated to put good tape out there before any trades shake things up. For Dallas, that makes this less like a straightforward matchup against a struggling team and more like the kind of trap game that can turn into a problem if the Cowboys are not ready from the start. Cowboys Still Waiting On Two Crucial Calls Before Colts Game

The Cowboys are heading into Week 9 with two important names still in question, and both could matter plenty against the Colts. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Joey Porter Jr. and George Pickens will be limited, while stopping short of confirming either one for Sunday, leaving Dallas to monitor two players who have become central to the conversation this week.

Pickens situation carries extra weight because of the injury concern and the constant buzz around his future, while Porters availability also looms large for a defense trying to keep pace. Dallas still has time to sort out the final call, but until those decisions come in, the matchup in Indianapolis is already carrying a little more uncertainty than the Cowboys would prefer.
