Jerry Jones Just Added Fresh Intrigue To Cowboys Eagles Week 7

As the Cowboys and Eagles prepare for their Week 7 showdown, a Cowboys reporter critiques media attention disparities between Jerry Jones and Eagles executives over issues surrounding Troy Aikman and Jalen Hurts.

A Dallas Cowboys reporter took aim at what he sees as a glaring media double standard after Jerry Jones was fielded at an NFL owners meeting.

The reporter pointed out how often Jones gets pressed on all kinds of topics, then contrasted that with the relative silence around Philadelphia’s top football decision-makers.

"So explain how the media can run down Jerry Jones at owners meeting on any random topic but can’t find Howie Roseman or Jeffrey Lurie to ask about Jalen Hurts."

The comment was tied to how Roseman and Lurie handled Hurts’ blood clot situation, though Hurts’ camp has already made its view clear. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there was no friction on that front.

"Hurts' team considered Eagles GM Howie Roseman, specifically, 'exceptional' throughout the process when it came to Hurts' health, per a source," Fowler reports.

"He was 'extremely hands-on' throughout and 'worried about Jalen's health more than anything else,' the source added."

Jones and Roseman are set to cross paths in Week 7, when the Cowboys head to Philadelphia to face the Eagles. Both teams enter that matchup at 2-4.

Jones also had words for Troy Aikman, backing his former teammate as Aikman weighs his next move in broadcasting. The two won three Super Bowls together in Dallas and are both in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Asked what Aikman might do if he steps away from the booth, Jones said, "Troy is very capable … He's very capable of being any number of things, certainly with football, short of getting back out on the field,"

Aikman is still considering his future with ESPN. His contract runs out after this season, and he could move on after five years with the network.

His partner in the booth, Joe Buck, has already locked in a new six-year, $108 million deal. Aikman remains unsigned beyond the Super Bowl on Valentine's Day, and his past work consulting with the Miami Dolphins has fueled the possibility of a full-time career change.

Cowboys Secondary Battle Could Force A Big Cornerback Change

The Cowboys have spent the first part of the season sorting through their cornerback depth while trying to steady a secondary that has already been tested during a 2-4 start. One of the more notable developments has been Ameer Speed earning more playing time than Shavon Revel Jr., with Speed holding the edge in both snaps and coverage production as the staff looks for reliable answers on the back end.

That trend has opened the door to a possible depth chart adjustment, one that would shift more responsibility toward Speed if the team decides it needs a cleaner fit in the secondary. For a defense trying to find its footing, the Cowboys are clearly weighing whether the current rotation is helping or whether a change at cornerback could bring a little more stability. Caleb Downs Is Already Facing A Cowboys Problem He Didnt Create

Caleb Downs has already been asked to do a little of everything in his first season with the Cowboys, and that has made his adjustment more complicated than a simple rookie learning curve. Injuries and uneven play in the secondary have pushed Dallas to shuffle pieces around, and Downs has become one of the players most affected by it. A safety by trade who thrived in college in that role, he has been stretched into responsibilities that do not always match what he did best before arriving in Dallas.

The growing pains have shown up most clearly when he is lined up in the nickel, where the fit has been tougher than it looked on paper. Even so, Downs still leads the team in tackles, a sign that the production is there even if the comfort level is still catching up. For the Cowboys, the larger issue is less about one rookie adjusting and more about a secondary that has forced him into spots that ask a lot more than his natural position did. [Read more 🡒]

Cowboys Suddenly Have One Big Joey Porter Jr. Concern Against Eagles

Joey Porter Jr. has given the Cowboys an early look at why they were interested in him, even in a small sample since arriving from Pittsburgh. Over his first two games in Dallas, he has logged 61 snaps and mostly done what the team hoped in coverage, helping stabilize a position the Cowboys have been eager to shore up.

The concern now is health, not performance. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Porter is dealing with an ankle issue that was re-aggravated during the recent game, and the team is monitoring his status closely with Philadelphia next on the schedule. For a defense that wants every edge it can get against the Eagles, Porter's availability suddenly matters a lot more than his early play. [Read more 🡒]
