Odell Beckham Jr. made sure the outfit got noticed long before the box score did.
The New York Giants receiver arrived for Monday night’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams wearing a crystal glove that drew clear Michael Jackson inspiration, and it immediately became one of the night’s biggest talking points. Beckham has never been shy about leaning into bold style choices, and this one fit right into that lane. The Giants, though, fell 28-6 at SoFi Stadium.
There was also a little history attached to the game itself. Beckham spent time with the Rams in 2021, helped them win Super Bowl LVI, and then suffered a knee injury during the championship game.
His connection to Jackson has shown up before, both in celebration and off the field. During the Giants’ preseason finale in August, Beckham hit Michael Jackson-style dance moves after a first down against the New York Jets.
He had also recently been given ruby-red cleats with a Wizard of Oz-inspired design. Beckham even has a detailed portrait of Michael Jackson tattooed on his lower right leg.
But while the glove grabbed attention, Beckham’s usage on the field ended up being the bigger story. He played only three offensive snaps out of 58.
By comparison, Malachi Fields was on the field for 47 snaps, Malik Nabers for 43, and Darnell Mooney for 42. Braxton Berrios, who is usually limited to special teams, even saw more action with five snaps.
The limited role stood out even more after starting quarterback Jaxson Dart injured his knee and left the game. Jameis Winston stepped in and went 11-for-27 passing. Beckham and Winston have strong chemistry, but the Giants barely had them on the field together.
Beckham had played just 11 snaps in Week 1, and through two games he still hasn’t been targeted once. Giants fans were excited to see him back, but so far the team has barely used him.
