George Pickens has separated himself quickly in Cowboys camp, and not just because of the production.
Among the Dallas offensive players at 2026 training camp, Pickens has been the clear headliner. He has brought the kind of effort that jumps off the field, and he has done it while carrying himself with a smile between reps. That stands out even more because his contract and long-term future have been a steady talking point all offseason.
That tension has not changed his approach. After a season that brought Second-team All-Pro honors and a No. 36 spot on the NFL’s annual Top 100 list, Pickens has looked every bit like one of the best players in camp. What makes it notable is that he is still out there and still going full speed while the contract situation hangs in the background.
Dallas has dealt with plenty of different responses to contract uncertainty. Last year, Micah Parsons made his stance impossible to ignore with a very public “holding in” approach during camp. But Parsons also had a stronger case from years of carrying the defense since his rookie season.

DaRon Bland, Shavon Revel, Caleb Downs, and others will be better for having spent the summer competing against him.
Just as important, Pickens is showing what professional handling of a messy situation looks like. He has managed the off-field noise without letting it spill onto the field, and that has made him the offensive player doing the most to help Dallas so far in camp.
There will be other standouts. More names will rise as camp goes on. But right now, Pickens has set the standard, and everyone else is trying to catch up.
