Dak Prescott didn’t sidestep the personal stuff this time.
In a recent sit-down with NBC’s Newy Scruggs during training camp in Oxnard, California, the Cowboys quarterback was asked directly how he’s handling life nearly five months after calling off his engagement to Sarah Jane Ramos. Prescott answered with no hesitation, and he made clear that his outlook hasn’t wavered.
"I'm great, I'm blessed. As I said, I'm a follower of Christ," Prescott said.
"And just having the faith that I do, it's always been something, a superpower in a sense that I've had is my faith. So, it won't change.
I won't even say it gets shaken just because things happen, things don't necessarily go my way or the way that I thought they would, doesn't necessarily affect the way that I wake up each morning. I'm grateful my feet hit the ground.
I'm grateful to breathe the air that I do and to be where I'm at."
Prescott then tied that mindset to the people and responsibilities that matter most to him.
"I've got too many blessings to look at my trials," Prescott said. "And I'm just super thankful to that opportunity that I have to be where I am and to have two amazing daughters, to be able to play the quarterback position for this organization and still inspire so many.
Adversity is going to come. It's inevitable.
And if you know how to respond to it, you can respond to it consistently, you can get over it."
The engagement was ended about five months ago, with the wedding in Lake Como, Italy, planned for about five weeks later. The split came after a bachelor and bachelorette trip to the Bahamas. Since then, Prescott and Ramos have focused on co-parenting their two daughters, Margaret Jane and Aurora Rayne, and in April they reached a temporary custody agreement.
Prescott’s attorney said the two sides agreed to handle things without court intervention for now.
The two have still crossed paths since the breakup, including at their youngest daughter’s first birthday in May.
Off the field, Prescott’s name has also been in the mix for another reason, with his place on Madden 27’s list of the league’s top-rated quarterbacks becoming part of the preseason conversation.
On the field, Prescott is coming off two straight seasons without a playoff appearance, and he has told teammates he intends to change that. For now, he says faith is what keeps him steady through the turbulence away from football.
