Dak Prescott Just Turned Up The Heat On Cowboys Trade Debate

With the NFL trade deadline looming, Dak Prescott openly questions whether the Cowboys' play-calling is properly utilizing George Pickens' talents amidst swirling trade rumors.

The Cowboys’ trade deadline conversation is getting louder, and Dak Prescott didn’t exactly sound interested in entertaining it.

With Tuesday, November 10, creeping closer, Dallas is still trying to figure out whether it will act like a buyer or a seller. The team’s recent slide - three losses in four weeks in games it could have won - has only pushed George Pickens back into the center of the discussion.

Pickens is on the franchise tag and his numbers have dipped this season, but he still has backing inside the building. Prescott made that clear when he was asked ahead of the Week 9 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts what he’d say to people who think the Cowboys should move the receiver.

“People say a lot of things I don’t believe, so I’m not listening to that one, either,” Prescott said. “George is a great teammate. And I say that in the sense of, he’s gonna do whatever is asked, he’s gonna do whatever is called.

“If it’s to go block, if it’s to just go run a guy off, he’s gonna do that. He believes in just doing the right thing, and the ball will come his way at times. And so, that’s not on George.”

That answer did more than defend Pickens. It also seemed to take a shot at the way the offense has used him.

Pickens has 39 catches for 533 yards and two touchdowns this season, and he has also been taken off the field in key moments in favor of Ryan Flournoy. Brian Schottenheimer and others have suggested that has been tied to run-blocking and/or injuries.

For now, the Cowboys have one week left to decide what happens before the deadline. If Pickens stays put, his contract situation is going to become one of the bigger offseason storylines in the NFL.

Sunday afternoon should offer another clue about how Dallas plans to use him, but the signs around the offense point to people wanting more from Pickens, not less.

Quinnen Williams Sounds Off As Cowboys Defense Hits Breaking Point

With the Cowboys sitting at 3-5 and trying to steady a defense that has repeatedly put them in a hole, Quinnen Williams has emerged as one of the few bright spots on that side of the ball. His production has stood out even in a difficult season, but he has also taken ownership of some of the units shortcomings, a sign of how much pressure is building around a group that has struggled to find consistency.

As Dallas turns its attention to the Colts in Week 9, the bigger question is whether Williams can help spark a turnaround before the season slips further out of reach. The defense has reached a breaking point, and while Williams has been part of the solution at times, the Cowboys still need more from everyone around him if they want to stop the slide. Cowboys Secondary Is Already Emerging As A Long Term Draft Priority

The Cowboys defense has been one of the early disappointments of the season, with the unit sitting near the bottom of the league in both total defense and pass defense. That kind of performance tends to sharpen the focus on the draft board, and one recent 2027 NFL mock draft already has Dallas looking to the secondary for help, projecting Georgia cornerback Ellis Robinson IV as a future fit.

Robinson has put together a strong college rsum and would give the Cowboys a young corner with the kind of upside teams covet when they start thinking beyond the current roster. The fit becomes even more interesting if Dallas eventually decides to move on from DaRon Bland, which would leave a clear opening for another long-term piece in a secondary that needs more stability. Colts Land In A Week 9 Spot With Bigger Stakes Than Expected

Dallas entered November at 3-5 after a loss to the Arizona Cardinals, and the margin for error has all but disappeared as the schedule turns to the Colts in Week 9. DraftKings Sportsbook has Dallas favored by six points, which only sharpens the pressure around a game that feels bigger than a typical midseason matchup for a team trying to steady itself and keep its season from drifting further off course.

The stakes go beyond one result on Sunday. Depending on how this one plays out, the Cowboys could be forced to make some hard decisions before the trade deadline, with the front office weighing whether to stand pat or make a move to try to salvage the season. For a team already in must-win territory, the Colts are arriving at a moment when the ripple effects could reach well past the final score. [Read more 🡒]
