Dak Prescott Just Shifted The Cowboys Biggest Debate

Dak Prescott's stellar performance in the Cowboys' thrilling comeback against the Texans showcased his growing dominance this season.

Dak Prescott didn’t just survive a heavy workload Sunday - he took control of the game when the Cowboys needed it most.

Dallas was staring at another wasted effort from its quarterback and another massive day from CeeDee Lamb before Prescott put together a late fourth-quarter march that finished off a 34-30 win over the Houston Texans. It was the kind of closing drive that changes the feel of a game, and it came after a day in which Prescott was asked to carry plenty of the load.

Brian Schottenheimer dialed up 45 pass attempts for Prescott, a season high after he threw 40 times in last week’s loss in Brazil to the Baltimore Ravens. That kind of volume isn’t exactly new territory for him, either. Since his 52-attempt outing in Dallas’ wild 40-37 overtime win over the New York Giants in Week 2 of last season, the only time he’s thrown more was on December 4, when he had 47 attempts in a Week 14 loss to the Detroit Lions.

This time, the numbers came with efficiency and poise. Prescott finished 32 of 45 for a season-best 335 yards and one crucial touchdown, and he did it without turning the ball over for the third straight week.

He also did it while dealing with the most pressure he has seen all year. That’s enough for an “A” grade in a win that pulled Dallas back to 2-2.

The Cowboys had to weather a rough stretch up front before Prescott and the offense found their rhythm. Through the first three weeks, Dallas had allowed just three sacks and 17 QB hits, but Sunday was a different story. Prescott was sacked three times and hit a season-high 12 times, with Will Anderson Jr. appearing to spend a good chunk of the afternoon in the Dallas backfield and finishing with five hits.

The first half turned especially ugly late. Two straight sacks near the end of the second quarter left Brandon Aubrey trying a 65-yarder after one earlier field goal had already been blocked. That kick missed, and Houston added to the damage before halftime when Ka’imi Fairbairn drilled a 54-yard field goal as time expired to send the Texans into the break up 16-6.

Everything flipped after halftime.

Prescott came out attacking and led touchdown drives of 49, 64, and 81 yards to open the second half. The third of those pushed Dallas ahead 27-23 and shifted the game in the Cowboys’ favor. The next possession stalled after only four yards, and the punt gave Houston a chance to swing back in front, which the Texans did with a score that made it 30-27.

That set the stage for Prescott’s best work of the day. He handled the two-minute drill and moved Dallas 74 yards in 1:43, ending the drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb. Lamb’s afternoon was absurd: 189 yards on a career-high 17 catches, the second-most receptions ever by a Cowboys player in a single game behind Jason Witten’s 18 against the New York Giants on October 28, 2012.

Dallas still had to sweat it out after the late touchdown, but unlike the loss to Baltimore, the defense finished the job. Christian Parker’s unit allowed a couple of completions that made things tighter than they needed to be, but C.J. Stroud’s Hail Mary from the Cowboys’ 48-yard line fell harmlessly to the turf as time expired.

Through four weeks, Prescott has completed 70.0 percent of his passes for 1,065 yards with eight touchdowns and just one interception. That adds up to a 105.0 passer rating and puts him on pace for one of the best seasons of his career.

Cowboys Pass Rush Problems Could Revive A Reunion Fans Never Expected

Four games into the 2026 season, the Cowboys pass rush has not produced the kind of pressure this defense needs, with just four sacks so far. That kind of slow start tends to get teams looking for outside help, and Bleacher Reports Kristopher Knox has already floated a familiar name as a possible fix: Jadeveon Clowney, now with the Texans, who are also sitting at 0-4.

The idea is not exactly new in Dallas, since the Cowboys have shown interest in Clowney before, but the fit is where the conversation gets tricky. Under Christian Parker, the defense has its own structure and demands, and there are real questions about how well Clowney would slot into it if the Cowboys decided to explore a trade market that suddenly feels more urgent than expected. Jerry Jones Just Put Pressure On Two New Cowboys To Deliver

The Cowboys latest additions from Pittsburgh arrive with the kind of built-in urgency that follows any move for young, talented players on rookie deals. Jerry Jones made clear the club is not treating contract talks as the immediate priority, which puts the spotlight squarely on George Pickens and Joey Porter Jr. to show they can help right away. Pickens has 225 yards and no touchdowns this season, while Porter is just getting started in Dallas after missing time because of injury.

For a team that has spent plenty of time talking about expectations, the message is simple enough: production comes first, and everything else comes later. Jones suggested any future negotiations will be shaped by how both players perform and how the team fares, so these early weeks matter. Pickens has to turn volume into impact, and Porter has to build on a delayed debut, because the Cowboys are making it clear that both newcomers will have to earn their next conversation. Cowboys Stole This Rivalry Win In A Way Texans Fans Will Hate

The Cowboys walked out of NRG Stadium with a 34-30 rivalry win over the Texans, and it came with the kind of late-game finish that tends to linger in this series. Dak Prescott found CeeDee Lamb for the touchdown that sealed it, a sequence that let Dallas leave Houston with bragging rights after a tight night in front of a split crowd feel.

Even before the final score settled in, the game had already drawn attention for a different reason when Instagram influencer Ene, better known as @truly.ene, went viral for her custom Houston Texans outfit. The look added another layer to a matchup that already had plenty of edge, and it turned the night into one of those crossover sports moments where the football result and the scene around it both got people talking.
