The Cowboys got the win over the Texans in Week 4, but the performance left plenty of the same uneasy questions hanging around Dallas.
Yes, the result went in the right column. No, that did not make the defense look fixed. The Cowboys were still shaky enough to nearly let the game slip late against a Texans team that, as the source notes, simply “can't get out of its own way.”
There were bright spots, though, and CeeDee Lamb delivered the kind of day that shuts down any debate about who owns the top spot in Dallas’ receiver room. The old chatter about whether Lamb was still the Cowboys’ No. 1 wideout - even the idea that Dallas should prefer George Pickens over him in 2027 if it came to that - is over. Pickens is “very good,” but Lamb is the alpha.
On the other side of the ball, DaRon Bland had another rough afternoon. Houston went after him, and it worked.
According to Pro Football Focus, Bland allowed five catches on seven targets for 104 yards and a touchdown. The piece says Cobie Durant is expected to miss at least one more game, but once he returns, he should take over as the starter, with Bland sliding into backup work.
Until then, the article argues Dallas should be giving more snaps to Shavon Revel and even Ameer Speed instead of Bland.
That wasn’t the only encouraging defensive performance worth highlighting. Joey Porter Jr. was described as a “boundary eraser,” and the numbers back it up.
In 24 snaps, 19 came in coverage, and he was targeted only once without allowing a catch. He was matched up with Nico Collins on five of those snaps, and Collins wasn’t targeted.
Dallas still had no real answer for Houston’s passing game overall, but Porter clearly handled his side of the field.
The bigger issue remains the defense as a whole. Even after settling down some following a disastrous opening, the Cowboys still gave up too much through the air, and Christian Parker has yet to get the unit on track after back-to-back games allowing 30 points.
There were coaching issues everywhere, too. Brian Schottenheimer didn’t call a good game on offense, and Nick Sorensen’s special teams units struggled again. The source calls the coaching across the board poor, and the results backed that up.
Tyler Guyton had one of the cleaner individual showings of the day. He lined up against Danielle Hunter for 32 snaps and had help on only about 12% of those plays, yet he allowed just two pressures and no sacks.
Against Will Anderson, he faced him eight times and gave up only one pressure without allowing a sack, again with no help. The article says there is still a long way to go, but Guyton is trending the right way in what it calls a make-or-break year.
Special teams, meanwhile, stayed messy. Brandon Aubrey missed a field goal and had another one blocked for the second straight week.
Dallas also gave up a long kickoff return that helped set up a Texans touchdown drive. The piece doesn’t sugarcoat it: special teams in Dallas has been dreadful, and something has to change.
On the pass rush, the Cowboys finally got a sack from Micah Parsons, though the article is quick to temper the significance of it because it came about eight seconds after the snap, with C.J. Stroud unable to find anyone open.
Still, Parsons led the team with six pressures and added two run stops. Those six pressures matched his total from the first three games combined, which at least gives Dallas something to build on.
The article stops short of declaring a breakthrough, but it does suggest this could be the start of a turn for him - even if skepticism remains warranted.

Cowboys Pass Rush Problems Could Revive A Reunion Fans Never Expected
Four games into the 2026 season, the Cowboys pass rush has not produced the kind of pressure this defense needs, with just four sacks so far. That kind of slow start tends to get teams looking for outside help, and Bleacher Reports Kristopher Knox has already floated a familiar name as a possible fix: Jadeveon Clowney, now with the Texans, who are also sitting at 0-4.
The idea is not exactly new in Dallas, since the Cowboys have shown interest in Clowney before, but the fit is where the conversation gets tricky. Under Christian Parker, the defense has its own structure and demands, and there are real questions about how well Clowney would slot into it if the Cowboys decided to explore a trade market that suddenly feels more urgent than expected. Jerry Jones Just Put Pressure On Two New Cowboys To Deliver
The Cowboys latest additions from Pittsburgh arrive with the kind of built-in urgency that follows any move for young, talented players on rookie deals. Jerry Jones made clear the club is not treating contract talks as the immediate priority, which puts the spotlight squarely on George Pickens and Joey Porter Jr. to show they can help right away. Pickens has 225 yards and no touchdowns this season, while Porter is just getting started in Dallas after missing time because of injury.
For a team that has spent plenty of time talking about expectations, the message is simple enough: production comes first, and everything else comes later. Jones suggested any future negotiations will be shaped by how both players perform and how the team fares, so these early weeks matter. Pickens has to turn volume into impact, and Porter has to build on a delayed debut, because the Cowboys are making it clear that both newcomers will have to earn their next conversation. Cowboys Stole This Rivalry Win In A Way Texans Fans Will Hate
The Cowboys walked out of NRG Stadium with a 34-30 rivalry win over the Texans, and it came with the kind of late-game finish that tends to linger in this series. Dak Prescott found CeeDee Lamb for the touchdown that sealed it, a sequence that let Dallas leave Houston with bragging rights after a tight night in front of a split crowd feel.
Even before the final score settled in, the game had already drawn attention for a different reason when Instagram influencer Ene, better known as @truly.ene, went viral for her custom Houston Texans outfit. The look added another layer to a matchup that already had plenty of edge, and it turned the night into one of those crossover sports moments where the football result and the scene around it both got people talking.
