Cowboys Weigh Drafting LSU Star Despite Recent Free Agency Moves

As the Cowboys bolster their secondary with smart free agency moves, the potential draft pick of LSUs Mansoor Delane adds a layer of intrigue to their evolving strategy.

The Dallas Cowboys have been making some savvy moves in free agency, adding quality starters like Rashan Gary, Jalen Thompson, and Cobie Durant. These additions bolster the secondary for new coordinator Christian Parker, showing a clear intent to strengthen the defense.

However, some fans feel more is needed, and they might have a point. The Cowboys are clearly on a mission to improve, even if the full picture isn't visible yet.

Enter NFL/CFB analyst Ryan Fowler, who reports that the Cowboys are planning a visit with LSU's standout corner, Mansoor Delane. Delane has been a popular mock draft pick for Dallas, especially given the pre-free agency concerns at the corner position. Now, with Durant joining DaRon Bland and Shavon Revel Jr., the urgency might have lessened.

Our own Mike Fisher echoed this sentiment on the Fish Report, highlighting that while cornerback was a major need, the recent signings provide flexibility. "They aren't forced to take LSU's Mansoor Delane at pick number 12," Fisher explained. "They aren't forced to take Tennessee's Jermod McCoy either."

The Cowboys have avoided painting themselves into a corner-pun intended. By still hosting Delane for a visit, they show genuine interest without the pressure of necessity.

If Delane is available at No. 12, and other targets like key linebackers or a dominant pass rusher are off the board, Dallas could still consider Delane. But with their recent moves, they have options and aren't locked into one path.
