The Dallas Cowboys made a strategic move on November 4th, aiming to bolster their defense by acquiring linebacker Logan Wilson from the Bengals. However, the results didn't pan out as expected.
Just recently, the Cowboys decided to waive Wilson, a decision reported by beat reporter Jon Machota. This move came after Wilson saw no action on the field by Christmas Day, despite being brought in right before the trade deadline.
The trade itself was relatively low-risk, costing the Cowboys only a 2026 seventh-round pick. Yet, the expectation was that Wilson would contribute more than just warming the bench.
Wilson, who had two years left on his contract, had an exit clause that the Cowboys opted to use. Originally drafted by the Bengals in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft from Wyoming, Wilson's stint in Dallas was brief. He appeared in seven games, recording 24 tackles and forcing one fumble.
Over his career with the Bengals, Wilson played 76 games and amassed 541 tackles. While his NFL experience might attract some interest in free agency, the fact that both the Bengals and Cowboys moved on from him could deter potential suitors.
For Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, this was a rare miss. The trade didn't deliver the defensive boost they had hoped for, and they had to acknowledge it wasn't the right fit.
