Cowboys Secondary Problem Just Got Harder To Ignore

The Cowboys' cornerback conundrum intensifies as Jerry Jones remains optimistic about DaRon Bland despite growing concerns from fans and analysts.

Jerry Jones isn’t sounding the alarm on DaRon Bland, but the Cowboys may be living with a problem that keeps getting louder.

Dallas added Joey Porter Jr., and that move changes the picture at cornerback. It does not, however, make Bland’s struggles disappear. The Cowboys still have a starter on the boundary who has not been close to reliable, and that has been true for more than two seasons.

Asked Wednesday on 105.3 The Fan about Bland, Jones acknowledged the concern around the fan base but said he does not share it to the same degree.

“I understand how our fans could be concerned. But I’m not as concerned as you might think," Jones said of Bland.

Jones also pointed to Porter’s arrival as a reason Bland could improve, and the logic is straightforward: opposing offenses are more likely to test Bland than Dallas’ top corner.

That did not work out well in Week 4. Against the Texans, Bland was targeted seven times, gave up 104 yards and a touchdown, and allowed five completions. Pro Football Focus credited him with a 71.4% completion rate allowed and a 153.3 passer rating against, just .5 short of a perfect mark.

The injury issues that were supposed to help him settle in haven’t changed the story. Through four games, Bland has allowed a 65% completion rate and a 129.2 passer rating when targeted, while giving up 160 yards and three touchdowns.

The Cowboys are clearly not ready to move on from him yet, but there’s a limit to how long they can keep hoping for a turnaround.

One possible fix is Cobie Durant, once he gets back from injury. Durant was Dallas’ best cornerback through a game-plus and, according to the source material, had been that way throughout the offseason too.

The catch is timing. He is still hurt and does not appear likely to play this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

There’s another wrinkle as well: Dallas may need Durant in the slot, with Caleb Downs likely taking on more snaps at safety because of injuries to Jalen Thompson and P.J. Locke.

Both are on injured reserve. Locke has to miss at least two more games, including Week 5, while Thompson will be out at least three more.

For now, the Cowboys may have to spread the work around more. That means more snaps for Ameer Speed and Shavon Revel instead of leaving Bland on the field for everything. At the very least, it would force him to earn those reps.

However Dallas handles it, the message is the same: if Bland’s play stays where it is, the Cowboys can’t keep rolling with the same setup on the outside. This defense can’t afford it.

Cowboys Pass Rush Problems Could Revive A Reunion Fans Never Expected

Four games into the 2026 season, the Cowboys pass rush has not produced the kind of pressure this defense needs, with just four sacks so far. That kind of slow start tends to get teams looking for outside help, and Bleacher Reports Kristopher Knox has already floated a familiar name as a possible fix: Jadeveon Clowney, now with the Texans, who are also sitting at 0-4.

The idea is not exactly new in Dallas, since the Cowboys have shown interest in Clowney before, but the fit is where the conversation gets tricky. Under Christian Parker, the defense has its own structure and demands, and there are real questions about how well Clowney would slot into it if the Cowboys decided to explore a trade market that suddenly feels more urgent than expected. Jerry Jones Just Put Pressure On Two New Cowboys To Deliver

The Cowboys latest additions from Pittsburgh arrive with the kind of built-in urgency that follows any move for young, talented players on rookie deals. Jerry Jones made clear the club is not treating contract talks as the immediate priority, which puts the spotlight squarely on George Pickens and Joey Porter Jr. to show they can help right away. Pickens has 225 yards and no touchdowns this season, while Porter is just getting started in Dallas after missing time because of injury.

For a team that has spent plenty of time talking about expectations, the message is simple enough: production comes first, and everything else comes later. Jones suggested any future negotiations will be shaped by how both players perform and how the team fares, so these early weeks matter. Pickens has to turn volume into impact, and Porter has to build on a delayed debut, because the Cowboys are making it clear that both newcomers will have to earn their next conversation. Cowboys Stole This Rivalry Win In A Way Texans Fans Will Hate

The Cowboys walked out of NRG Stadium with a 34-30 rivalry win over the Texans, and it came with the kind of late-game finish that tends to linger in this series. Dak Prescott found CeeDee Lamb for the touchdown that sealed it, a sequence that let Dallas leave Houston with bragging rights after a tight night in front of a split crowd feel.

Even before the final score settled in, the game had already drawn attention for a different reason when Instagram influencer Ene, better known as @truly.ene, went viral for her custom Houston Texans outfit. The look added another layer to a matchup that already had plenty of edge, and it turned the night into one of those crossover sports moments where the football result and the scene around it both got people talking.
