The Cowboys are still trying to find some traction in the run game, and Dak Prescott knows exactly why that matters. With Dallas averaging less than 80 rushing yards a game, the offense hasn’t had the kind of balance it needs, especially with a tough Philadelphia Eagles defense waiting next.
Prescott said getting the ground game moving would do more than just improve one part of the offense. It would open the door to the stuff Dallas does best.
“From there, you get your play action, your passes,” Prescott said. “If you look at those numbers, I can guarantee you more than half of those were run action type plays and explosives. From there, a lot of things can open up.”
That same idea ties directly into how Dallas wants to get back to explosive plays. If the run game starts forcing defenses to respect it, Prescott believes the offense can rediscover the rhythm that has been missing.
The quarterback also addressed the recent issues against the blitz, and he didn’t make it sound like some impossible problem. After Sunday night’s 23-13 loss at Green Bay, Prescott said the fix starts with simplifying things.
“I just have to simplify the plan,” Prescott said after Sunday night’s 23-13 loss at Green Bay. “That starts with me and really it ends with me.
You give yourself a few options on a blitz and you get in the game and you want to do this one, want to do that one, and I just have to be more simple and more direct in exactly what I want to do. I don’t want to get too into it and tell my answers, but it is definitely fixable.”
Despite the rough patch, Brian Schottenheimer is sticking with his approach as the play caller. He pushed back hard on the idea of giving that up.
“No, absolutely not,” Schottenheimer said. “I have incredible confidence in our offense.
We have not played well the last two weeks, we have addressed a lot of the reasons why. We haven’t changed who we are.
We are still a good explosive offense with weapons. We can hurt you a lot of different ways.
I certainly haven’t lost the ability to call plays. I’m an elite play-caller in this league, and it can change around quickly.”
There’s also a coaching wrinkle worth watching. Mike Pettine is providing support to Christian Parker and the rest of the staff, with his main job being film work on the Cowboys and their opponents. Pettine began working Wednesday of last week and said the early stretch felt overwhelming before he was already in the coaches’ box in Green Bay by Sunday.
Parker and Pettine have been down this road before. Back in 2019 in Green Bay, Parker was the one in the coaches’ box serving as Pettine’s “eyes in the sky.” This time, the roles were flipped.
“He’s the same for me during the game,” Parker said.
On top of that, Dallas continues to get encouraging injury news. The defense is set to get some key players back on Monday night after injuries have been a major issue all season, especially on that side of the ball. For a defense that was already struggling early, losing some of its most talented players only made the situation worse.

CeeDee Lamb Just Gave Cowboys Fans Another Reason To Love This Rivalry
CeeDee Lamb did not leave much mystery about where he gets the most satisfaction. In a SportsCenter interview, the Cowboys star said beating the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field is his favorite NFL matchup, and it is easy to see why that rivalry keeps grabbing his attention.
Lamb backed up the sentiment with production in Dallas 38-21 win over Philadelphia, catching two touchdown passes in the victory. He has been central to the Cowboys offense all season as well, with 53 receptions for 651 yards and six touchdowns through seven games, but the Eagles game clearly still carries a little extra edge. Troy Aikman's Emotional Cowboys-Eagles Moment Meant More Than Fans Realized
The Monday Night Football broadcast carried a heavier tone for anyone who knew David Moulton, the longtime sports radio personality whose work around ESPNs NFL coverage made him a familiar presence behind the scenes. Moulton died after a six-year battle with cancer, and his passing was confirmed by his wife, Julie, prompting tributes from colleagues who had come to value not just his professionalism, but the friendship he built with them over the years.
Among those remembering him were Troy Aikman and Joe Buck, whose words on the Cowboys-Eagles telecast reflected how much Moulton meant to the people around the production. For Dallas fans used to hearing that booth throughout the season, it was a reminder that these games are shaped by more than what happens on the field, with some of the most meaningful moments taking place far from the spotlight.
