Cowboys Loss Already Sparked A Cardinals Quarterback Shakeup

After a thrilling overtime win against the Cowboys, the Cardinals have shaken up their quarterback lineup, elevating Gardner Minshew to starter while Jacoby Brissett faces an uncertain future.

The Cardinals’ overtime win over the Cowboys didn’t just give Arizona a jolt in the standings. It also flipped the quarterback picture on its head.

Gardner Minshew is now the starter, and Jacoby Brissett is headed to the bench after the team’s Week 8 comeback against Dallas, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The move comes one day after Minshew stepped in and helped rescue the Cardinals in a wild finish.

"The #AZCardinals are naming QB Gardner Minshew as their starting QB, one day after his heroics led to a dramatic win over the Cowboys," Rapoport reports. "Jacoby Brissett heads to the bench."

Minshew’s numbers made the decision easy to see coming. After replacing Brissett, he completed 17 of 23 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns without an interception, powering Arizona’s rally in overtime.

Brissett, meanwhile, struggled before being replaced. He finished 10 of 23 for 119 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

The change at the top of the depth chart is only part of the story, though. Jonathan Jones of The Athletic reported that Brissett has been pushed all the way down to emergency third quarterback, while rookie third-round pick Carson Beck is moving up to QB2.

"Carson Beck will be QB2, and Brissett will be the emergency third QB. This is a signal to the NFL that they can trade for Brissett," Jones reports.

So Arizona isn’t just swapping one veteran starter for another. It’s also reshuffling the entire quarterback room, with Beck backing up Minshew and Brissett sliding into the QB3 role.

That setup could put Brissett on the radar for teams looking for quarterback help before the November 10 trade deadline, with the Cardinals’ move making it clear he’s not in their starting plans for the rest of the season.

Cowboys Could Have A Tough Trade Deadline Decision Ahead

The Cowboys are heading toward the trade deadline with more questions than answers, and their uneven play has only sharpened the spotlight on how they should handle the roster. Sitting below .500, Dallas has to weigh present-day urgency against longer-term planning, which is never an easy balance when the season is already wobbling.

Terence Steele, Jonathan Mingo and Luke Schoonmaker are among the names that could come up in conversations because of where they stand on the depth chart and how the team is using them. If Dallas decides to shop any of them, the goal would be to turn current roster pieces into draft capital and give the front office more flexibility as it tries to patch holes and reshape the team moving forward. George Pickens Just Added To A Growing Cowboys Debate

George Pickens first month in Dallas has already become part of a bigger conversation about how the Cowboys want to use him, and how much patience they should have while the offense keeps searching for answers. After the Week 8 loss to Arizona, Pickens was seen heading off the field before the Cardinals game-winning field goal was even confirmed, a small moment that only added to the scrutiny around a receiver who was targeted four times and finished with two catches for 48 yards.

The bigger issue for Dallas is less about one play than the fit itself. Pickens has not been on the field as much as some teammates, and his role has not yet matched the expectations that came with his arrival, which is why his name is already surfacing in trade chatter as the Cowboys weigh what comes next. For now, it is just speculation, but it is the kind of speculation that tends to grow louder when a team is losing and one of its most talented pieces is still trying to find his place. Cowboys Suddenly Face A Franchise Crossroads After Cardinals Collapse

The Cowboys season has reached a point where every decision feels bigger than the last. At 3-5, Dallas is no longer just dealing with uneven play and defensive lapses, it is staring at a real organizational fork in the road as the trade deadline nears and the front office weighs whether this group still deserves more investment or whether the smarter move is to start thinking ahead.

George Pickens is part of that larger conversation, along with the rest of a roster that has not found enough consistency to inspire confidence. The uncertainty extends beyond personnel, too, with questions lingering around the coaching staff and whether it has enough traction to steady things. However Dallas chooses to handle the next stretch, the coming days could shape not just the rest of this season but the direction of the franchise itself. [Read more 🡒]
