The Dallas Cowboys may have Arch Manning sitting there in a 2027 NFL mock draft, but in Luke Easterling’s latest projection, Jerry Jones and company go in a different direction.
With the No. 8 pick, Dallas passes on the Texas quarterback and takes Indiana wide receiver Charlie Becker instead. Manning is still on the board when the Cowboys are on the clock in Easterling’s mock, but he slides to Cleveland at No. 15 overall.
That setup fits a bigger question hanging over Dallas: what happens with George Pickens? Easterling’s read is that the Cowboys won’t be eager to pay top dollar to keep him as the WR2 opposite CeeDee Lamb, and if Pickens leaves after the season, the team would need another receiver ready to step in.
“I don’t expect the Cowboys to pay top dollar to keep George Pickens as their WR2 across from CeeDee Lamb, and if he ends up leaving in the offseason, they’ll need a capable replacement,” Easterling wrote.
Stephen Jones has already suggested that keeping both receivers at the top of the market would be a tough lift.
“The situation we have with George Pickens going alongside CeeDee.. I don't know of any teams that really can pay two top receivers top of the market,” Jones said.
“So, yeah. That's going to be a real difficult situation as we move forward.
We've managed to figure out how we can do it for this year.
“Certainly, if everything works out the way we think it is, which CeeDee and George both have huge years again, then it'll be a bigger challenge next year. George is really wanting to put back-to-back years on top of one another so it'll help his market.
And certainly I know at some point, as does every player in this league, will want to be rewarded with a long-term contract. So that certainly puts pressure on us to have a unique situation there.”
Easterling likes Becker as the answer if Dallas needs one. He pointed to a receiver with size, athleticism, strong hands, and the kind of body control that plays in contested-catch situations.
“Becker brings an impressive blend of size (6-4, 208) and athleticism to the table, with the hands and body control to win contested-catch situations, along with a knack for making big plays in clutch moments,” Easterling said.
Becker’s production backs up the profile. Last season, he caught 34 passes for 679 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 20 yards per catch. This year, he’s already off to a fast start with 19 receptions for 370 yards and six touchdowns in four games.
If that pace holds, Becker won’t just be a first-round name in 2027 - he’ll be one of the first receivers off the board.
For Dallas, the logic is simple enough: if Pickens is gone, a wideout makes sense, and Becker could be the kind of replacement that lets the Cowboys spend elsewhere.

Tony Romos Next Move Could Reopen A Cowboys Debate
Tony Romos split with CBS Sports leaves one of the leagues most recognizable voices back in the mix, even if his next step is still unclear. The move came after a July arrest, and Romo has said he plans to focus on his health and family before making any decision about what comes next. CBS has already settled on J.J. Watt as its lead analyst alongside Jim Nantz, so Romos path now shifts away from the booth and into whatever comes next off the air.
For Cowboys fans, the more interesting wrinkle is where this could lead in Dallas. Romo has long remained tied to the franchise that made him a household name, and any conversation about his future inevitably brings up the possibility of a front-office or advisory role. There is no official confirmation of anything along those lines, but if Romo does circle back to the Cowboys, it would reopen a familiar debate about how much the team should lean on a former quarterback whose influence still resonates around the organization. Cowboys Pulled Off A Comeback But Two Problems Still Loom
The Cowboys had to claw their way back against Houston, but they found enough late offense to leave Week 4 with a 34-30 win after a slow start and a brief stumble after losing the lead. The ending was the kind of response Dallas has been looking for, with the offense delivering a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter to finish off a game that never came easy.
CeeDee Lamb was the headliner, setting a franchise record with 17 catches for 189 yards and a touchdown, while Rashan Gary and Quinnen Williams each added sacks on the other side of the ball. Even with the win, the bigger picture was harder to ignore: the rushing attack never really got going, and the cornerback play was uneven enough to keep some questions alive despite the comeback. Dak Prescott Suddenly Gives Cowboys Fans A Short-Week Concern
Dak Prescott left the Week 4 game against the Houston Texans with his right hand wrapped, a small detail that immediately caught the eye of Cowboys fans coming off a physical divisional-style matchup. Prescott said he was stepped on and is dealing with swelling, though he described himself as otherwise fine, which at least offered some early reassurance after a game that gave Dallas plenty to sort through.
The timing is what makes it worth watching. The Cowboys are headed into a short week before their Week 5 game, and the first official injury report coming Monday should offer a clearer picture of whether this is just a postgame inconvenience or something the team needs to monitor closely as it prepares for the next round.
