The Cowboys have built a real habit out of raiding spring football for help, and Friday brought another name into that pipeline.
Dallas signed running back Jashaun Corbin to fill the spot opened by the recently cut Dominic Richardson. Corbin enters the mix as another UFL product trying to turn a strong spring into something more in the NFL, and he lands in a backfield that already has plenty of bodies.
Corbin’s path has been a winding one. He went undrafted in 2022, spent time on the practice squads of the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers, and appeared in six games for the Giants in 2023. A season-ending injury in training camp the next year knocked him out of the league, but he resurfaced in the UFL and kept producing.
In 2025, Corbin played for the San Antonio Brahmas and led the league in rushing. Last year with the Orlando Storm, he finished third in rushing and added value as a receiver and kick returner. That all-around skill set is part of what makes him interesting in Dallas, where the Cowboys are looking for one-cut burst, vision, pass-catching ability and special teams help from the position.
This latest move fits a pattern that has paid off before for the Cowboys.
KaVontae Turpin was one of the first big wins. He starred for the New Jersey Generals in 2022, winning league MVP honors after leading the league in receiving yards.
Once he got to Dallas, he became a Pro Bowl returner right away, something the Cowboys had never had before in their 60+ year history. He’s now earned Pro Bowl recognition in three of his four NFL seasons and has been an All-Pro in each of the last two.
Brandon Aubrey is the other standout success story. Before he was drilling long field goals for Dallas, he was winning back-to-back titles with the Birmingham Stallions.
Before that, he had been a professional soccer player and software engineer. His NFL start has been ridiculous in the best way: he broke the record for most consecutive field goals made to start a career and owns the record for the most field goals from 60 yards or more, with six.
Aubrey has been an All-Pro in all three of his seasons and just signed a four-year, $28 million extension.
Not every UFL swing has connected. Willie Harvey Jr. came over after leading the league in tackles in 2024 and earning first-team All-UFL honors with the St. Louis Battlehawks, but he never played a snap for Dallas before being released during final roster cuts.
Perrion Winfrey was another Dallas flier with a complicated path. A fourth-round pick by the Browns in 2022, he had off-field issues, was released, spent time on the Jets practice squad and eventually landed in Birmingham, where he revived his career with a strong 2025 season and a huge sack in the USFL championship game.
He was the only UFL player from that year to make an NFL roster, but a back injury sent him to injured reserve before the season began. When he returned, he played in just one regular-season game, and with Dallas making major upgrades along the interior defensive line, he was released in March.
Corbin now gets his chance to try to keep the trend going. The Cowboys have found real value in spring football before, but the hits haven’t come as often lately. For Corbin, the opportunity is straightforward: compete for one of the last running back spots and show that his speed, vision and versatility can carry over again.
