Cowboys' Jerry Jones Eyes Maxx Crosby After Ravens Exit Trade Talks

Could the Cowboys' pursuit of Maxx Crosby reignite despite the Raiders' resistance and recent roster changes?

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones thought he missed out on a major acquisition when Maxx Crosby was nearly traded from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens. The deal, which involved two first-round picks, fell through when Crosby reportedly failed his physical due to a meniscus repair earlier this offseason. This turn of events has left many wondering if Jones might make another attempt to bring Crosby to Dallas.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Jones left the door slightly ajar for future discussions with the Raiders about Crosby's availability. When asked if he had ruled out pursuing Crosby, Jones stated, "We’re pretty far down the road relative to what our plans are. So while I don’t anticipate it, I don’t want to rule anything out."

Initially, Jones was ready to offer the Raiders the 12th overall pick in this year's draft, a future second-rounder, and a veteran player for Crosby. However, after the Ravens deal collapsed, Dallas reportedly decided to "move on."

The Cowboys have since bolstered their defense by adding former Green Bay Packers pass-rusher Rashan Gary. Meanwhile, the Raiders have informed interested teams that Crosby is not available for trade.

Despite previously requesting a trade, Crosby signaled his willingness to continue with the Raiders in a recent social media post. As the offseason unfolds, Jones has expressed satisfaction with the Cowboys' progress, particularly in addressing a defense that underperformed last season.

"We have nowhere but up to go on defense," Jones remarked. "That’s not anyone’s fault at all.

But we’re going to almost assuredly be much better. And I’m betting on us improving on offense.

That ought to get us with a better feeling when we get into December."

If the Raiders remain firm on keeping Crosby, Jones may need to explore other options to enhance the Cowboys' pass rush.
