The Cowboys spent their 2026 offseason leaning hard into defense, and the reason is sitting right there in the numbers: Matt Eberflus’ unit allowed 511 yards, a franchise record nobody in Dallas wants to revisit.
That backdrop is why Shavon Revel has become such a central name. The 2025 third-round pick is being talked about as the kind of player who could swing the Cowboys’ season, and Jon Machota of The Athletic has pegged him as Dallas’ breakout candidate. Revel, the 25-year-old corner from East Carolina, was viewed as a first-round talent before a torn ACL pushed him down the board.
Machota said Revel is now healthy and has a real path to a starting job.
"Revel is in position to compete for a starting cornerback spot. He has the ideal size (6-2, 200), strength and athleticism to be a quality outside corner. Cornerback is one of the biggest question marks on the roster."
That question mark is exactly why Revel matters so much. Caleb Downs has already been recognized as one of the best rookies in the 2026 class, but if Dallas wants its cornerback group to take a real step, Revel has to be part of the answer.
The encouraging part for the Cowboys is that Revel has looked more and more comfortable. There’s been no sign of the ACL injury hanging over him, and he’s shown off the quickness and agility that made him such an intriguing prospect in the first place.
The confidence has been there all offseason, too. Revel has even gone on record saying he would one day become the best cornerback in the NFL.
That’s a bold statement, but the talent is obvious. The bigger issue is turning it into production on Sundays.
Last season, he looked out of sorts and probably should have sat out. Now, with Christian Parker taking over the defense, Dallas is starting from a cleaner slate, and Revel gets a fresh chance to build toward the ceiling the Cowboys have been chasing.
Parker’s track record only adds to the optimism. He has helped develop players like Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell into All-Pro status, and that gives Revel a real runway to grow into the kind of corner Dallas needs.
Machota also noted that training camp will give Revel a serious test, with plenty of reps against George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb. That’s no easy assignment for any corner, much less one still trying to prove he belongs. But if Revel can hold up against those receivers, the league will notice fast.
Dallas isn’t being handed a Super Bowl path here, and nobody is pretending one breakout player solves everything. Still, if Revel delivers on the promise that has followed him since draft season, the Cowboys’ chances of getting back into true contention get a lot more interesting.

Cowboys Fans Are Losing It Over This Dak Offseason Photo
A viral offseason image of Dak Prescott has been making the rounds online, and it has plenty of Cowboys fans doing a double take. The picture shows Prescott looking dramatically bigger than usual, the kind of photo that can light up social media in a hurry when a franchise quarterback is trying to reset the tone for a new season.
Prescott has already made clear what he wants the standard to be in 2026, saying the playoffs are the minimum goal after Dallas missed out the last two years. There is still a long way to go before the real test arrives, but the Cowboys will get an immediate stage when they open against the Giants on Sunday Night Football in Week 1. [Read more 🡒]
Cowboys Suddenly Pulled Into A Dak Rumor That Feels Ridiculous
A fresh quarterback rumor has nudged the Cowboys into an uncomfortable spot, even if the fit looks shaky on paper. The chatter centers on a former high draft pick who has already seen his role change in Indianapolis, where the Colts made a different move at quarterback and left the door open for plenty of speculation around what comes next.
For Dallas, the timing makes the whole thing feel more like noise than a real possibility. Dak Prescott is still the starter, and the Cowboys already have depth behind him, which makes a trade for another quarterback hard to justify unless the market shifts in a hurry. Still, once a team gets mentioned in a rumor like this, it tends to linger until the next move somewhere else finally clears it up. [Read more 🡒]
Cowboys Receiver Debate Just Took An Unexpected Turn
Stefon Diggs is suddenly back on the market after his release by the New England Patriots, and with training camps only two weeks away, his next landing spot has become one of the more interesting questions around the league. The veteran receiver has also been making a case for himself in a way that naturally invites comparison, especially for teams trying to sort out where he would fit in an already crowded passing game.
For Dallas, the answer starts with CeeDee Lamb at the top of the chart and George Pickens right behind him, which makes any Diggs conversation more about fit than need. Pickens has already established himself with a huge season and a first Pro Bowl nod, while Lamb remains the clear centerpiece, so the Cowboys would have to decide whether Diggs is the kind of addition who changes the room or simply adds another name to an already complicated debate.
