According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Dallas is handing Jaishawn Barham the green dot against the Washington Commanders. Machota reported, "Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer confirms that rookie LB Jaishawn Barham will be wearing the green dot, calling the defense Sunday."
That puts a lot on Barham’s plate in just his second NFL game. The Cowboys’ defense had a rough opening week, even though the final score showed only 28 points allowed. Against the New York Giants, they simply didn’t do enough to feel good about where things stood.
Now comes another NFC East test, and a big one. Dallas and Washington both dropped their Week 1 games to division opponents, so the loser on Sunday will fall to 0-2 and dig itself into a serious hole early.
The decision to hand the defensive communication duties to Barham is the surprise here.
