Cowboys Getting Booed At Home As Dak And Defense Crumble

The Dallas Cowboys face intense backlash from their home crowd as their faltering performance against the Buccaneers raises serious concerns about the team's trajectory this season.

The Cowboys walked into the fourth quarter Thursday night already on the ropes, trailing 24-10 at home against the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the mood at AT&T Stadium turned fast. The boos came hard, and they came with good reason.

Dallas spent the third quarter unraveling in every direction. Tampa Bay opened with a 2-play, 86-yard touchdown drive, then came the Dak Prescott interception, then another Buccaneers touchdown on a 5-play, 85-yard march.

KaVontae Turpin followed with a fumble on the kickoff, and the Cowboys later went nowhere on a turnover on downs after Prescott missed Jake Ferguson. The only Tampa Bay points not tied to a touchdown were a field goal.

The Cowboys defense has become its own problem, and right now it looks even rougher than it did a season ago. Buccaneers undrafted rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels played like a veteran, picking apart Christian Parker’s “scheme” while Dallas kept bleeding big plays, first downs and momentum. Whether it was downfield damage, run-game leakage or penalties extending drives, the result was the same: the Cowboys kept handing Tampa Bay more chances.

That trend didn’t stop when the fourth quarter began. On Tampa Bay’s first snap of the period, with the Buccaneers facing 3rd and 13, Shavon Revel Jr. was flagged for pass interference and the drive stayed alive.

And while Dallas fans are used to the offense trying to cover for the defense, the Cowboys’ attack wasn’t much help either. Prescott and company were nearly as shaky as the unit behind them. After the Buccaneers had seized control, Dallas still had a window to answer, but Prescott kept missing routine throws and looked rattled by the pressure.

By the end of three quarters, Prescott was 13 of 28 for 166 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. The pick itself wasn’t entirely on him, since the ball bounced off Ryan Flournoy’s hands and popped into the air. Even so, there was no escaping the larger picture: Daniels had clearly outplayed Prescott, and the Cowboys were staring at another ugly night.

Jerry Jones Gets Pulled Back Into A Familiar NFL Firestorm

Colin Kaepernick has brought Jerry Jones back into one of the NFLs most familiar old debates as he continues promoting his memoir, *A Perilous Fight*, which was released Sept. 15. During his book tour, Kaepernick criticized the Cowboys owner over Joness past opposition to Kaepernicks national anthem protests, a stance that once helped make the issue one of the leagues defining flashpoints.

For Dallas, it is another reminder that Jones can still end up at the center of league-wide conversation long after the original controversy faded from the daily news cycle. Jones had previously said the protests were disappointing and harmful to the NFLs popularity, and Kaepernicks public comments have now put that history back in view as the book tour keeps moving. Bucs Still Haunt Cowboys After Another Defensive Meltdown

The Cowboys latest meeting with Tampa Bay served as another reminder that the Buccaneers have become a particularly rough matchup when Dallas defense starts slipping. After giving up 17 unanswered points in the third quarter, the same issues that have dogged the run defense resurfaced, and the frustration around that side of the ball only grew louder in the aftermath.

Breiden Fehoko and Gerald McCoy both took aim at defensive coordinator Christian Parkers performance and the units execution, adding outside pressure to a conversation the Cowboys cant ignore. Brian Schottenheimer acknowledged there were some defensive shortcomings, even as he pointed to positives from a recent win, but the bigger concern in Dallas remains whether the defense can clean up enough to keep games from unraveling the way this one did. CeeDee Lamb's Quiet Start Has Cowboys Fans Wondering What's Going On

CeeDee Lamb is on the field and available for the Cowboys in Week 5 against Tampa Bay, but the early flow of the game has not given Dallas much room to get him involved. A long Buccaneers opening drive has kept the Cowboys on the sideline more than they would like, and when Dak Prescott has had the ball, he has leaned early on George Pickens.

For a player who usually commands plenty of attention, Lambs quiet start stands out more because it has come without any injury concern attached. The bigger question for Dallas now is whether the offense can create more possessions and spread the work around, or whether this ends up being one of those games where the rhythm never quite develops the way the Cowboys expected.
