Cowboys Could Face A Much Tougher Eagles Offense Monday Night

Saquon Barkley's likely return could breathe new life into the Philadelphia Eagles' season as they prepare to confront the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

The Eagles may be getting a badly needed lift just in time for Monday Night Football against the Cowboys.

After six weeks that have gone sideways for Philadelphia, there’s finally some positive injury news bubbling up around Saquon Barkley. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Barkley is expected to return to practice on Thursday, which is the team’s first session of the week before the primetime matchup.

“Eagles RB Saquon Barkley is expected to return to practice today and is in line to play Monday against the Cowboys, sources say,” Garafolo reports.

That doesn’t lock Barkley into the lineup for Week 7, but it’s a strong sign the Eagles could have him back when they face their NFC East rivals.

Philadelphia enters the game at 2-4, and while the season has already gone badly in a lot of ways, the division is still sitting there for the taking in a weak NFC East. A win over Dallas would give a Tanner McKee-led team a much-needed start in that chase.

The timing matters because the Eagles’ offense could use the help. The running game has been rough all season, and Barkley’s injury problems have been a major reason why.

He’s only managed two full games, missed two more entirely, and was forced out early in two others. His latest issue, a hamstring injury, kept him out of Weeks 5 and 6.

Now, with a Thursday practice return in sight, Barkley appears to be moving toward a game-day comeback just when the Eagles need a spark.

Cowboys Mourn The Loss Of One Of Their Most Dependable Legends

Cornell Green, one of the most dependable players in Cowboys history, has died at 86, leaving behind a rsum that still reads like a standard for durability and consistency in Dallas. A defensive back for the franchise from 1962 to 1974, Green built his legacy on more than accolades, earning five Pro Bowl selections, four All-Pro nods and a place on the 1972 Super Bowl championship team.

What set Green apart in a way that still stands out today was the reliability he brought every season, never missing a game across his 13-year career. He remains tied for fifth in Cowboys history with 34 interceptions, another reminder of how much he meant to a defense that relied on him year after year. [Read more 🡒]

Cowboys Trey Lance Trade Looks Worse With 49ers Looming Again

The Cowboys latest loss to Green Bay only sharpened the attention on what comes next, because San Francisco is back on the schedule and still carries the kind of weight that has followed Dallas since those playoff exits in 2022 and 2023. With the 49ers again looming as a measuring stick, the old Trey Lance trade has a way of resurfacing too, especially when the discussion turns from what Dallas gave up to what it got in return.

Lance never had much of a runway in Dallas before his rookie contract ran out, and the move has become harder to defend as the years have passed. The draft pick the Cowboys sent to San Francisco has already helped the 49ers in a meaningful way, giving them another useful defensive piece while Dallas is left to wonder whether the swing ever had a real chance of paying off. Cowboys Could Still Make One More Aggressive Move For Pass Rush Help

The Cowboys have already spent plenty of energy trying to upgrade their roster, but the pass rush still looks like one area that could draw another aggressive swing. One name that has come up is Josh Sweat, the veteran edge rusher in Arizona, who has the kind of experience and production that would naturally fit a Dallas defense looking for more pressure up front.

ESPN insiders Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano pointed to Sweat as a player who makes sense for the Cowboys needs, which keeps the idea alive even if nothing is imminent. Arizonas willingness to consider a move would come down to the return, with draft capital part of the equation, and that is where Dallas would have to decide how badly it wants to keep pressing for help before the deadline picture comes into focus.
