CeeDee Lamb in Concussion Protocol After Scary Fall vs. Lions, Cowboys Hope Extra Rest Helps Recovery
The Dallas Cowboys didn’t just take a loss on the scoreboard Thursday night against the Detroit Lions-they also took a hit to their receiving corps, with CeeDee Lamb exiting the game after a frightening fall that left him in concussion protocol.
The injury occurred in the third quarter as Lamb went up to haul in a pass from Dak Prescott. He couldn’t secure the catch, but it was the way he came down-landing hard on his head-that immediately raised concern.
Trainers rushed to him, and Lamb was quickly taken to the medical tent. Moments later, he was ruled out for the rest of the game.
On Friday, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer provided a cautiously optimistic update. “He had a good day,” Schottenheimer said, noting that Lamb is now working through the NFL’s concussion protocol.
“He has to go through all the checks and balances of all that stuff. I do think the extra couple of days should hopefully help him.”
That extra time could prove crucial. With the Cowboys playing on Thursday, Lamb has a few additional days to clear the necessary steps before Dallas’ next matchup-set for Sunday, Dec. 14, against the Minnesota Vikings. It’s not a guarantee, but the longer window certainly gives him a better shot at being available.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones also weighed in during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan, admitting the moment shook him. “It scared me. It really did,” Jones said, echoing what many fans were likely feeling as they watched one of the team’s most dynamic weapons leave the game.
Lamb has been a cornerstone of the Cowboys’ offense this season, leading the team with 57 receptions for 865 yards and three touchdowns through 10 games. His ability to stretch the field, make contested catches, and serve as a safety valve for Prescott has made him indispensable in a year where the Cowboys have struggled to find consistent rhythm on offense.
With Dallas sitting at 6-6-1 and their playoff hopes hanging in the balance, Lamb’s availability moving forward could be a deciding factor in how the rest of the season plays out. The Cowboys are already walking a tightrope in the NFC playoff picture, and losing their top receiver for any extended stretch would only make that climb steeper.
For now, all eyes are on Lamb’s recovery. The Cowboys will be hoping that the early signs of progress continue and that their star wideout is back in action when they face the Vikings. But as with any concussion, the process is as much about patience and caution as it is about timelines.
