CeeDee Lamb didn’t need much to get rolling Sunday. A coin toss was enough.
When the Washington Commanders chose to defer after winning the opening toss in Week 2, Lamb took it as a slight - and then made sure Dallas made them pay. The Cowboys marched right down the field on a 10-play, 66-yard opening drive, and Lamb finished it with a three-yard touchdown catch from Dak Prescott.
"I think it's offensive when they choose to put our offense out there first," Lamb said, per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "From now on, we control the narrative.
We control what we do. Get the ball first, go score."
Dallas did exactly that in a 37-20 win, and the start mattered after the Cowboys had opened sluggishly the week before, when they didn’t reach the end zone until the second quarter.
"Honestly, it was just about how fast can we come out? How efficient can we be?"
Lamb added, according to DallasCowboys.com. "Obviously, we feel like that's our standard, and the only way that we can do that is going out there and converting every first down, staying ahead of the chains, relying on one another, and then one of us getting in the end zone.
It just happened to be me first this week."
That opening score wasn’t the end of it. Prescott and Lamb connected again later in the game on a 24-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, with Lamb making a strong adjustment to haul it in.
In all, Lamb turned nine targets into eight catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns. It was his biggest yardage day since his 227-yard game in Week 17 of 2023.
Prescott said the Cowboys weren’t scripting the game around feeding Lamb. The production came naturally as the offense settled in.
"I don't think that was the plan, like, 'Hey, let's get the ball to CeeDee coming out here,'" Prescott stated. "It was just do the things we do well and the plays that we run well, and it just so happened they went to CeeDee. And he got in a groove and had a hell of a night."
Through two games, Lamb has made the No. 1 receiver job look settled. After George Pickens’ career-best showing in 2025 created some offseason debate, Lamb has answered with 13 catches for 197 yards and three touchdowns, matching his touchdown total from last season already. Pickens, meanwhile, has been held to nine catches for 68 yards.
The Cowboys now turn to a Week 3 meeting with the Baltimore Ravens, where Lamb and Prescott will try to keep the momentum going and Pickens will be looking for his own breakout.
