The 2025 Dallas Cowboys were a team of contrasts, showcasing a Super Bowl-level offense while their defense struggled to keep up. This imbalance ultimately derailed their playoff hopes well before the season's end.
Owner and GM Jerry Jones has been proactive in addressing these defensive shortcomings, bringing in new defensive coordinator Christian Parker, who will be under immediate pressure to turn things around.
However, star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb seems unfazed by the defensive woes. In a candid chat with Ross Tucker on his podcast, Lamb expressed that his focus remains on the offensive side of the ball.
"Well, for me, brother, I was in the Big 12," Lamb remarked, emphasizing his comfort with high-scoring games. "If our defense gets a stop, great, we can run away with this game.
If they don't, we still gotta score to win."
Lamb is clear about his priorities: scoring on every drive, regardless of the defense's performance. "As a receiver, I'm looking to run up the score anyway," he added. "Our identity is about scoring points, and that's everything."
While Lamb's confidence in the offense is admirable, football is a game of three phases, and balance is key. The Cowboys led the league in total yards per game (404.2) and were seventh in points per game (27.6), but their defense allowed the third-most total yards (391.4) and the most points per game (30.1).
This disparity isn't a recipe for success, and unless the defense steps up, the Cowboys' 7-9-1 record may not improve. The pressure is on to find that crucial balance and make the necessary stops to complement their high-powered offense.
