Cardinals Face One Big Roster Question Ahead Of Cowboys Showdown

With key changes to their roster, the Cardinals prepare to face the Cowboys in a pivotal game that could make or break their season ambitions.

The Cardinals didn’t wait until kickoff week to start tightening the screws for Sunday’s matchup with Dallas.

Arizona made two practice squad elevations on Saturday, bringing up defensive lineman Jared Harrison-Hunte and tight end Kenny Yeboah for the game against the Cowboys. It was the maximum number of standard elevations the team could use.

The timing matters because the Cardinals already ruled out defensive lineman Walter Nolen III and offensive lineman Jon Gaines on Friday. Harrison-Hunte gives Arizona more depth up front, and the move also hints the team feels good enough about questionable center Hjalte Froholdt to have him available on Sunday. The same logic could apply to questionable cornerback Max Melton and safety Andrew Wingard.

Yeboah’s elevation stands out a little more. Trey McBride, Elijah Higgins and Teagan Quitoriano were all healthy this week, but Arizona may simply want another body in that tight end room. The Cardinals lean on 13 personnel - one running back and three tight ends - more than almost anyone in the league.

All of this comes with a bigger backdrop: Week 8 feels like a fork in the road for Arizona. A win over Dallas would move the Cardinals to 3-5 and keep a slim path open for a turnaround. A loss would drop them to 2-6 and make the outlook for the 2026 season look all but sealed.

There’s also a strange little wrinkle hanging over this matchup. Arizona has won eight of its last nine games against the Cowboys, and Dallas’ last victory in the series came in 2017.

That’s a jarring run considering how the two teams are usually viewed. The Cardinals have spent plenty of time near the bottom of the NFL standings, while the Cowboys are typically treated as annual playoff contenders.

“Yeah, it's just crazy,” Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb told reporters on never beating Arizona since he came into the league (h/t Cowboys' Official Team Site). “[We were] being very, very relaxed, and they punched us in the mouth every single time. They've always had more energy They were more excited, regardless of if it was a 12 o'clock, Sunday night or Monday night.

"We've played them in prime time, they beat us there. So, we need to treat them as if they are a Super Bowl contending team, which they may be, you know what I'm saying?

Hats off to them in their prep, and we just got to go match them. If not overpowered that."

Now Arizona gets another shot to keep that trend going at AT&T Stadium.

Joey Porter Jr. Is Giving Cowboys Fans A Reason To Gloat

The Cowboys added Joey Porter Jr. in a deal that already looks like one of the more interesting moves of the season, sending a 2028 second-round pick to Pittsburgh for the cornerback. Through three games in Dallas, Porter has fit right into a defense that values length, discipline and coverage ability, and his early play has given the secondary a steadier feel.

Porter has also backed up the hype with production, allowing the lowest completion percentage among corners with at least 75 coverage snaps in 2026. Meanwhile, the Steelers are said to be feeling the sting of the move and are shopping for cornerback help at the trade deadline, which only adds to the sense that Dallas may have landed the better end of this one. Cowboys Face A Familiar Cardinals Problem At The Worst Time

The Cardinals have turned into one of those opponents the Cowboys never seem to get a clean handle on, and this weeks matchup arrives with Dallas trying to build momentum and climb in the NFC East. CeeDee Lamb pointed to Arizonas consistent energy and competitiveness in these games, which has been part of the problem for a Cowboys team that has not found much comfort in this series, especially when the game is on their own turf.

Dallas is trying to start a winning streak at the right time, but the history here is hard to ignore. The Cowboys have had their issues with Arizona for years, and the longer that pattern hangs around, the more it adds pressure to a game that already carries weight in the division race. Jerry Jones Faces A Cowboys Trade Deadline Problem He Can't Ignore

Jerry Jones has made it clear the Cowboys are at least willing to listen as the trade deadline approaches, but the front office is running into a familiar NFL obstacle: not enough draft capital to make a meaningful move without paying a steep price. Dallas has already spent heavily in previous transactions, and Jones has sounded skeptical about landing a real difference-maker if it means surrendering picks the club would rather keep in reserve.

That leaves the Cowboys in a tricky spot, because the most workable path may be the kind of deal teams almost never pull off in-season. A player-for-player swap would fit the roster math better than a pick-heavy trade, but it would also force Dallas to consider moving a key piece from its own lineup. George Pickens, currently on the franchise tag, is one of the names that naturally comes into that discussion, which is exactly why the deadline feels more complicated than a simple buyer-or-seller decision.
