Cam Newton had no trouble turning a brother-to-brother interview into a little national-TV-style roast of the Indianapolis Colts.
During an appearance on the “Downs 2 Business” podcast with Dallas Cowboys rookie Caleb Downs and his brother Josh, Newton spent most of the conversation hyping up the Cowboys’ star power heading into the 2026 season. His description of Dallas was simple and flashy: the kind of roster that belongs in a “Netflix special.”
“Caleb, you are going to a star-infested team,” Newton began. “You got the highest-paid quarterback (Dak Prescott) on your team.
You have one of the most highest-paid receivers (CeeDee Lamb) and you've got George Pickens at the helm. You got the most influential team owner in all of sports.”
Then came the punch line aimed at Josh and the Colts.
“So, you've got to look at it like you're walking into a Netflix special. Josh over there went to a team that's barely on Tubi,” Newton added, which drew a huge laugh from Caleb.
Josh Downs didn’t exactly play along like he loved the joke, but he did give Newton some credit.
“I see what he's saying, though,” Josh said. “There's the teams that get all the [publicity] and it's the teams that don't get as much.”
He also said that when Caleb was drafted, he told his younger brother that he “got the spotlight from God” after going from Alabama to Ohio State in college and then landing with the Cowboys in the NFL.
“The football gods have smiled on you, bro,” Newton said to Caleb while agreeing with Josh.
The joke works because it lands on something real: Dallas gets a level of attention most NFL teams never sniff. That comes with the territory when you’re talking about the Cowboys brand, and it also means a rookie like Downs is stepping into a spotlight that burns a little hotter than most.
It’s not just the attention, either. Dallas also gets more primetime games than most teams, which can mean less regular rest over the course of a season.
Still, if Caleb Downs is going to handle the pressure that comes with wearing a Cowboys uniform, he’s got the kind of background that should help. This isn’t his first time playing for a program that lives under a bright light.
