The San Jose Sharks have added Mason Marchment on a five-year deal worth $7 million per season, according to Elliotte Friedman.
Marchment is stepping into a Sharks group that’s been trending in the right direction and now has even more young talent in the mix up front. San Jose improved by 34 points last season from 2024-25, when it finished dead last in the NHL, and the 31-year-old winger gives Ryan Warsofsky’s team a veteran voice along with another scoring option.
Last season, Marchment split time between the Seattle Kraken and Columbus Blue Jackets after a December trade to Columbus. He put up four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 29 games with Seattle, then finished with 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points in 39 games with the Blue Jackets. That gave him 45 points across the two teams.
Since making his NHL debut in 2019-20, the undrafted Ontario native has piled up 95 goals and 139 assists for 234 points in 370 regular-season games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Dallas Stars, Kraken, and Blue Jackets. He has also produced 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points in 59 playoff games. His top season came with Dallas in 2023-24, when he posted 22 goals and 31 assists for 53 points in 81 games.
Marchment was previously on a four-year contract carrying a $4.5 million AAV that he signed with the Stars in 2022.
There’s also a family tie here. Marchment’s late father, Bryan Marchment, played for the Sharks from 1997-98 through 2002-03 and later worked for the organization as both a scout and in player development.
