The Blue Jackets are headed to Detroit to kick off their road toward the 2026-27 NHL season, taking part in the Prospects Tournament from Sept. 12-15 at the Belfor Training Center inside Little Caesars Arena.
Columbus will join the host Red Wings, plus the Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins, in a four-team event that gives the club an early look at its next wave of talent.
The Blue Jackets’ schedule in Detroit starts Saturday, Sept. 12 with a morning skate at 8:15 a.m. and a 3 p.m. game against Pittsburgh. They’ll return to the ice Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. morning skate before facing Dallas at 3:30 p.m. Monday’s schedule is listed as TBD, and the tournament wraps Tuesday with a 9 a.m. morning skate followed by a 2 p.m. game at Detroit.
Nick Bootland, the head coach of the Cleveland Monsters, will run the Blue Jackets behind the bench. Columbus’ rookie camp roster includes 23 players, with 11 of them drafted by the organization.
Three 2026 NHL Draft picks will make their first appearance as Blue Jackets: center Alessandro Di Iorio, selected 94th overall; goaltender Parker Snell, taken 142nd; and left wing Filip Novak, picked 206th. The rest of the drafted group in the tournament includes 2025 center Owen Griffin; 2024 defenseman Charlie Elick, goaltender Evan Gardner and defenseman Luca Marrelli; 2023 center Luca Pinelli and center Oiva Keskinen; 2022 right wing Jordan Dumais; and 2021 defenseman Guillaume Richard.
The roster also features six players who have signed entry level contracts with Columbus: forward Josh Eernisse and defenseman Boston Buckberger in 2026, defenseman Caleb MacDonald and right wing Jack Williams in 2025, left wing Max McCue in 2024 and goaltender Nolan Lalonde in 2022.
After the tournament, veterans and rookies will report for training camp, presented by OhioHealth, with medicals set for Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Practice opens the next day. The Blue Jackets then begin preseason play on Monday, Sept. 21 against Detroit before opening their 26th regular season on Thursday, Oct. 1 against the Buffalo Sabres at Nationwide Arena.
