The Blue Jackets have brought Dante Fabbro back onto the active roster.
According to a team announcement, Columbus activated the defenseman from injured reserve. The club had an open roster spot, so no corresponding move was required.
Fabbro, 28, has been sidelined by a broken hand he suffered in preseason. The right-shot defenseman is set to return after missing the first four weeks of the regular season and Columbus’ first nine games of the 2026-27 campaign.
Practice line rushes pointed to Fabbro slotting into the bottom pairing with Erik Gudbranson. That would mark his ninth NHL season and his second full year with the Blue Jackets.
Columbus originally claimed Fabbro off waivers from the Nashville Predators around this time a few years ago, and his early run with the team went well. He most often skated alongside Zach Werenski, and that stretch produced nine goals and 26 points in 62 games with a plus-23 rating while averaging 21:39 of ice time per night. At even strength, he also posted a 91.7% on-ice save percentage, which stood as one of the stronger marks of his career.
That performance led the Blue Jackets to lock him up on a four-year, $16.5MM deal carrying a $4.125MM AAV. Last season, though, his play slipped.
Fabbro ended the 2025-26 campaign with five goals and 11 points in 74 games, a minus-16 rating, and 16:34 of ice time per game. He still blocked shots at a strong clip, but most of his offensive and defensive numbers dropped.
Ivan Provorov is the lone Blue Jackets defenseman still on injured reserve as he works back from a lower-body injury.

Blue Jackets Nearly Let Two Points Slip Before One Star Saved Them
For a while, it looked like Columbus was headed for a comfortable night after jumping in front early and building a 3-0 lead in the first period. Adam Fantilli, Denton Mateychuk and Trevor Zegras all played key roles in getting the Blue Jackets in position to control the game, and the pace suggested they might cruise to two points without much drama.
Philadelphia had other ideas and dragged the game back to even before Columbus needed one last burst to escape with the win. Kent Johnson provided it in overtime, finishing the game off for a 4-3 Blue Jackets victory and turning what had been a squandered lead into a result Columbus could still take home. [Read more 🡒]
Blue Jackets Get An Early Road Test That Could Say A Lot
The Blue Jackets are stepping into their first real road trip of the season with a stop in Philadelphia, and it comes at a useful time for a club trying to build something off a recent overtime win. The Flyers have been slow out of the gate but have shown more life lately, which makes this an early measuring-stick game for Columbus as it tries to settle in away from home and keep carrying over the energy from its last result.
Columbus also should get a boost on the blue line, with one defenseman expected back from injured reserve for the matchup. Even with the Flyers still searching for consistency, this is the kind of game that can quietly reveal a lot about where a young Blue Jackets team stands after a bumpy start, especially with both clubs bunched closely together in the standings despite Philadelphia having played more games. Blue Jackets Need More From Their Offense As Road Trip Starts
The Blue Jackets are barely into the season, but the scoring issues are already hard to ignore as they head out on their first meaningful road trip. Through nine games, Columbus has had trouble getting enough from the top of the lineup, and the early concern centers on players the club expected to drive more offense. Rick Bowness has acknowledged the challenge, and the team is still confident the goals will come as the group settles in.
Conor Garland and Sean Monahan are among the names at the center of that conversation, especially with Columbus looking for a steadier attack away from home. The Blue Jackets know they cannot lean on hope for long, and the next stretch away from home offers a chance to reset the mix and see whether the current lines can produce more consistently before the pressure on the offense grows any heavier.
