The Rockies made a notable swap with the Trade Deadline closing in, sending center fielder Brenton Doyle to the White Sox and landing right-handed pitcher Mason Adams along with 16-year-old Venezuelan infield prospect Carlos Vielma.
The deal came Monday, with the deadline set for 4 p.m. MT. It was not announced right away by officials because the trade was still going through the required medical reviews.
For Colorado, the move starts a wider reshaping of the outfield while also bringing in another arm. Rookie Cole Carrigg, who was called up in early June after Doyle was slowed by injuries, has hit .305/.389/.525 across 44 games.
Adams, 26, entered the White Sox system as a 13th-round Draft pick in 2022 out of Jacksonville University. His curveball and slider helped push him onto the Major League radar by Spring Training 2025, but a right elbow injury led to Tommy John surgery.
He has worked back this season and is 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA, along with 48 strikeouts and 19 walks in 49 innings across three levels. At the time of the trade, Adams was at Triple-A Charlotte, where he went 3-3 with a 4.25 ERA in 36 innings over nine games, including seven starts, while striking out 36 and walking 17. Chicago had him ranked as its No. 8 prospect.
Vielma signed for a $1.5 million bonus in January and hit .337 with one home run and 21 RBIs in 34 games for the White Sox’s Rookie-level Dominican Summer League team. He played mostly third base.
Doyle, 28, won Gold Glove Awards in each of his first two big league seasons, 2023 and 2024, but his 2025 season never got on track. In 45 games for the Rockies, he hit .214 with one home run and five RBIs, and his year was interrupted by a left oblique contusion in May and then a left groin strain suffered during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque.
He had avoided arbitration this year by signing a one-year, $3.1 million deal, and he is not scheduled to reach free agency until 2030. Doyle did find some timing during his last rehab stint, then went 2-for-6 with a walk, a double and an RBI in two games after returning to Colorado.
