The Colorado Rockies may be closing the book on another season without a playoff spot, but their next wave of pitching and position-player talent is still getting work.
A sizable Rockies contingent is headed to the Arizona Fall League, where prospects get extra at-bats and innings against other organizations’ young talent. Colorado’s group includes Sean Sullivan, Konner Eaton, Stu Flesland III, Hunter Mann, Fidel Ulloa, Jack O'Dowd, Andy Perez and Jared Thomas. Jerry Sullivan and Owen Cuffe will also be there as coaches.
Sullivan is the name that jumps out first because he already logged major league time for Colorado this year. He debuted on June 23 against the Boston Red Sox and worked five innings while allowing three runs. His next two starts, against the Miami Marlins and San Francisco Giants, went rougher: 11 runs on 18 hits over the two outings combined.
That stretch sent him back out of the rotation for now, but the 24-year-old is still very much in the picture. A second-round pick in 2023, Sullivan gets another chance to make a case for himself this fall and show the Rockies why they invested so much in him.
For Sullivan, the assignment is straightforward: sharpen everything and prove he can stack quality pitches together. Colorado could use starting pitching help sooner rather than later, and if he develops the way the organization hopes, he could be part of that mix in 2027 if there is a season and not a lockout.
The Fall League also gives the rest of that Rockies group a stage to get noticed, and the club’s staff will be watching closely as Warren Schaeffer and the organization look for signs of progress.
