Jordan McCarthy set the tone immediately at Busch Stadium and never let up.
He opened Saturday night’s game with a homer on the first pitch, later added a two-run blast in the sixth, and finished with four hits as the Rockies beat the Cardinals 8-6. His final hit came in the ninth, when he dropped down a bunt.
It was the third multi-homer game of McCarthy’s career and his second this season, pushing his Major League career high to 13 home runs. The only time he has topped that total in a professional season was in 2021, when he hit a combined 15 between Double-A and Triple-A for the Diamondbacks before they traded him to the Rockies in January.
McCarthy’s surge has been building for a while. After batting .204 last year, he was sent to Triple-A by the Diamondbacks, and he said that part of the issue was that he was trying to manufacture the ability to drive balls.
This season, the game is coming together for him. Since July 1, he has hit .315/.348/.569 with seven homers and 30 RBIs in 31 games.
Saturday also marked McCarthy’s second straight game with at least three hits, and he added his 19th and 20th stolen bases of the season.
The bounce-back came after Friday’s loss, when the Rockies were blanked in key spots and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position in a 3-2 defeat. McCarthy didn’t waste time making sure that kind of night didn’t repeat itself, launching Matthew Liberatore’s first pitch 420 feet into the right-field seats over the home bullpen.

Ezequiel Tovar Just Raised A Bigger Rockies Question
Ezequiel Tovar spent much of the 2026 season searching for his offensive rhythm, and for a while the numbers only deepened the concern. He came out of the All-Star break with a low batting average and the kind of approach that had Colorado wondering whether one of its most important young players was settling in or simply pressing through another long summer.
