Denver Reacts To Shocking Russell Wilson Report

Russell Wilson, a celebrated former quarterback and NC State alum, is eyeing a major career transition as he reportedly interviews for the university's head coaching position amidst a pivotal moment for the team.

Russell Wilson is in the mix for the North Carolina State head coaching job, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting Tuesday that the former Seahawks quarterback interviewed for the opening.

Wilson’s name carries obvious weight in Raleigh. He spent three seasons as NC State’s quarterback from 2008-10 before transferring to Wisconsin for his final college year in 2011. Now 37, he’s being considered for a role that would bring him back to his alma mater in a very different capacity.

NC State’s search also has another familiar name attached to it. ESPN reported Saturday that Philip Rivers, the eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback and another Wolfpack alum, has “engaged in serious discussions” about coaching the program.

The job opened after NC State fired Dave Doeren on Oct. 24 following a 3-4 start. Doeren had been in his 14th season leading the Wolfpack.

Wilson retired from the NFL in June after a 14-year career and is currently working as a CBS Sports analyst on “The NFL Today” this fall. His playing résumé is loaded: a 10-time Pro Bowler, he spent 2012-21 with the Seahawks, where he led them to two Super Bowl appearances and their first championship.

During that run in Seattle, Wilson became known for his deep-ball touch and his ability to escape pressure, while also setting franchise records, earning three top-four finishes in AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year voting and winning the NFL’s 2020 Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

His career took a sharp turn after Seattle traded him to Denver in March 2022 in a blockbuster deal. The Seahawks used the haul of draft picks to help build toward their 2025 Super Bowl-winning team, while Wilson’s career moved in the other direction.

Since leaving Seattle, he went 17-27 as a starter across three teams in four seasons. He was 11-19 in Denver from 2022-23, 6-5 with Pittsburgh in 2024 and 0-3 with the Giants in 2025 before first-round pick Jaxson Dart took over.

Over his career, Wilson threw for 46,966 yards, 353 touchdowns and 114 interceptions, while adding 5,568 rushing yards and 31 scores on the ground. He remains the only player in NFL history to top both 40,000 passing yards and 5,000 rushing yards.

Hunter Goodman Could Put His Name Beside A Rockies Legend

Hunter Goodmans breakout season has put him in rare company, giving the Rockies a chance to celebrate one of their own as the offseason gets underway. After launching 41 home runs and driving in 88 RBIs, Goodman has emerged as one of the most productive catchers in the game, a development that gives Colorado a bright individual storyline even as the front office turns its attention to free agency and what comes next.

The competition is steep, with Gabriel Moreno bringing a different kind of profile to the race, but Goodmans power production has already made him one of the most notable names in the conversation. For a franchise still sorting through its offseason plans, the possibility of adding another piece of hardware to the organizations history only adds to the intrigue, with the decision set to come later this month. Rockies Face A Tough Zac Veen Decision They Cant Ignore

Zac Veens 2026 season in Triple-A Albuquerque gave the Rockies exactly the kind of reminder they hoped for when they made him a first-round pick. He forced his way to the majors after a standout year in the Pacific Coast League, and even if his big-league showing was modest, the organization now has a young outfielder with real value sitting in the middle of a roster conversation that is only getting louder.

Colorados problem is that Veens appeal runs in two directions at once. He could still fit as part of the clubs long-term outfield picture, but he also looks like the sort of controllable talent that could draw interest if the Rockies decide the quickest way to help their pitching staff is to use him in a trade. With the outfield crowded and the rotation still needing help, this is the kind of decision the front office cannot put off for long. [Read more 🡒]
