The Milwaukee Brewers are closing in on a bullpen addition, with the club working to acquire Antonio Senzatela from the Colorado Rockies as the trade deadline nears, a source told The Athletic.
Senzatela, 31, has spent this season in a role that may finally be unlocking what evaluators long wondered about: how his stuff would translate if it were taken out of Coors Field. In his first full year as a reliever, he has settled in nicely. Across 34 games, he is 9-2 with a 3.61 ERA in 52 1/3 innings, striking out 46 and walking 17.
The right-hander’s path to this point has been anything but smooth. He broke into the majors at 22 in 2017 as part of a Rockies rotation that also featured Jon Gray, Kyle Freeland and Germán Márquez.
Like so many Colorado arms, he has dealt with the usual toll of pitching for the Rockies, and injuries have been a major part of his own story. He tore his ACL in 2022 and had Tommy John surgery in 2024.
During Colorado’s 2025 season, his ERA climbed to 6.65 in 30 appearances.
Colorado’s new front office, led by Paul DePodesta, entered 2026 with a clear plan for Senzatela: move him to the bullpen and see if that could maximize his value. The move came with a noticeable uptick in velocity. He now leans on 97-mph four-seamers, 96-mph sinkers and 92-mph cutters, while his changeup gives him a way to work against left-handed hitters.
Senzatela is due $12 million in 2026, and the Rockies also hold a $14 million team option for 2027.
