In the heart of Washington, D.C., the lacrosse scene is buzzing with excitement as Colorado’s senior midfielder, Lily Assini, makes her mark. She's just been added to the prestigious Tewaaraton Award watch list, an accolade that highlights the best of the best in college lacrosse. Assini joins fellow Buffs, senior attacker Maddie Shoup, sophomore goalkeeper Elena Oh, and senior defender Jess Peluso, in this elite group.
The Tewaaraton Award, a benchmark of excellence since 2001, honors the top male and female college lacrosse players in the U.S. With top collegiate coaches forming the selection committees, making it onto this list is no small feat.
Assini's impact on the field is undeniable. She’s been a dual threat, contributing significantly on both offense and defense.
This season, she’s notched at least one goal in every game, tallying two or more points in eight of the nine games played. Her standout performance came against UConn, where she hit a career-high six points with four goals and two assists.
But it’s not just about scoring. Assini's defensive prowess is evident with 14 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers this season. She matched her career-high of three caused turnovers in a game against Army, showcasing her versatility and tenacity.
Looking ahead, the Buffs are gearing up to face No. 5 Florida in Orlando on April 4.
It’s set to be a thrilling matchup, with the first draw scheduled for 10 a.m. MT.
