Josh Niblett Energizes Colorado's Tight End Room With Fresh Expectations

Josh Niblett brings his championship-winning spirit to Colorados tight end squad, focusing on leadership and performance with emerging star Zach Atkins.

BOULDER - The Colorado Buffaloes are bringing a fresh vibe to their tight end group this spring, with Josh Niblett stepping in to lead the charge. Known for his success as a high school coach, Niblett is injecting new energy into the program alongside head coach Deion Sanders.

Joining the Buffs in January, Niblett has quickly made his mark with a fiery passion for the game. A seven-time state champion at the high school level, he’s focused on making a big impact with Colorado's tight ends.

"Every day is about finding ways to make a difference through football," Niblett shared. "Being part of this exciting program is a thrill, and I’m here to help us win both on and off the field."

Niblett's impressive resume includes leading Gainesville High School in Georgia to 45 victories over four seasons, and prior to that, guiding Hoover High School in Alabama to six state titles over 14 years.

Now, as he navigates his first spring with the Buffs, Niblett is working with a diverse tight end group featuring returning starter Zach Atkins, Northern Colorado transfer Fisher Clements, former walk-on Brady Kopetz, Charlie Williams, Corbin Laisure, and Zayne DeSouza.

"These guys are my responsibility, both on and off the field," Niblett emphasized. "It’s about making an impact through words, energy, and effort, and ensuring strong relationships across the team."

Leadership is not in short supply, particularly with Zach Atkins in the mix. "Zach is a standout leader," Niblett noted.

"His versatility is a game-changer. Whether it’s playing on the perimeter, as a hybrid, or even splitting out as a receiver, he’s continuously improving.

We aim to evolve our room to handle any role."

Atkins, who transferred from Division II, hauled in 20 passes for 149 yards last season. With the introduction of offensive coordinator Brennan Marion’s dynamic "Go-Go" offense, those numbers could see a significant boost.
