Deion Sanders Is Betting On Isaac Wilson In A Brutal Spot

Deck: Deion Sanders' unwavering belief in Isaac Wilson will be put to the test as Colorado takes on a formidable Utah defense, seeking to break their losing streak.

Deion Sanders is rolling with Isaac Wilson again.

After the bye week, Colorado is set to go into Saturday’s matchup against No. 11 Utah with Wilson still in the starting role, even after the redshirt freshman threw three interceptions in his first start for the Buffaloes. Colorado, sitting at 2-3, is trying to snap a three-game slide and avoid a fourth straight loss.

Sanders didn’t sound interested in making a change.

“Isaac is always up to the test,” Deion Sanders said Tuesday. “This isn’t any different.

Isaac is the same Isaac, man. He doesn’t don’t flinch.

“He doesn’t place blame. He is what he is.”

Wilson took over at halftime of the Big 12 opener against Baylor, replacing Julian Lewis. He gave Colorado a lift in the second half of that game, then came out hot on his first drive as a starter the next week against Texas Tech. The Buffs opened with a nine-play, 75-yard touchdown march led by Wilson.

After that, the night turned sharply.

Wilson finished the game completing 59% of his passes for 290 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. He also logged 55 dropbacks and threw 44 passes in his first start in nearly two years, a volume Sanders does not want to repeat.

“We have one glaring problem,” Deion Sanders said after the game. “You guys know what that is.

Let’s stop the foolishness, man. We have one glaring problem.

“We have to play better at one position.”

That one position will be under the microscope against a Utah defense that has been the Big 12’s No. 1 scoring defense this season. Wilson, who played in 10 games and made seven starts for Utah before transferring, now gets a shot against his old team.

Colorado plans to lean more on the run this week, which should take some pressure off Wilson after the Texas Tech game asked him to shoulder too much.

“We don’t want to throw the ball 40-plus times,” Deion Sanders said Tuesday. “We don’t want to get into that because we’re not great when we throw it that much.”

Lewis and Kaneal Sweetwyne will back up Wilson on Saturday as Colorado tries to spring a Top-25 upset.

Sanders also made clear that his relationship with Wilson gives him a little more room to be blunt than he might with another quarterback.

“Isaac is the kind of guy, this really happened, I said make sure you throw the ball to our team,” Deion Sanders said Tuesday. “We can joke like that because Isaac is one of those kids, man.

He ain’t taking that too hard. He’s not going to cry and have a pity party because that’s the balance of our relationship.

“We can get down like that. And then when he does something, yeah, ‘what you got to say now?’ That’s how Isaac gets down with me.

Colorado Faces A Familiar Isaac Wilson Problem Against Utah

Isaac Wilsons move from Utah to Colorado has added a little extra edge to an already interesting matchup, and Utah coach Morgan Scalley didnt sound like someone surprised by the challenge ahead. Scalley praised Wilsons arm talent while also stressing the basic truth of the sport: it takes more than one player to win a game. With Wilson and cornerback Jason Stokes Jr. both set to line up against their former school, the Buffaloes are dealing with the kind of familiar crossover that can make a regular-season game feel a little more personal.

For Colorado, the intrigue goes beyond the roster links and into how much Utah already understands about the players it helped develop. Scalleys comments made clear that the reunion angle only goes so far, since both sides know this is still about execution, not nostalgia. Even so, when a quarterback and a defensive back arrive from the same program and end up staring down their old teammates, the matchup naturally carries a little extra weight. [Read more 🡒]

Colorado Tennis Finally Has The Depth For A Real Regional Push

Colorados tennis team heads into the 2026 ITA Mountain Regional Championship at BYU from Oct. 13-17 with a level of depth it has been building toward for some time. The Buffaloes will travel with seven players and enter the event near full strength, a setup that gives them more options in both singles and doubles than they have had in past regional runs. Coaches have been upbeat about how the group has prepared, and the bracket reflects a team with enough quality to contend across multiple matches.

Lera Alexin and Ema Bubalo give Colorado a seeded doubles tandem, while Yukiko Ikedo is the lone Buffalo in the qualifying singles draw and six teammates are already set for the main draw. For a program trying to turn promising pieces into a regional push, that kind of balance matters because every round can shift the path toward nationals. The question now is not whether Colorado has enough players to compete, but how far that depth can carry them when the tournament begins. [Read more 🡒]

Deion Sanders Sends Colorado Fans A Blunt Warning Before Utah

Colorados trip to Utah comes with more than the usual conference edge. Deion Sanders spent his time with the media making clear that the Buffs are walking into a difficult matchup, one against a team he respects on both sides of the ball. He singled out Utah coach Morgan Scalley, pointed to the Utes offense and defense as major problems for any opponent, and left little doubt that this is a game Colorado will need to handle with urgency.

The stakes only feel higher because of where Colorados offense has been lately, and the betting line reflects that reality with Utah favored by 15.5 points. Sanders also settled one of the teams biggest questions by indicating Isaac Wilson will get the start at quarterback, a choice that keeps Julian Lewis waiting a bit longer. Against a Utah defense built to test every weakness, the Buffs are going to need more than a cleaner script to keep this one competitive. [Read more 🡒]
