Deion Sanders had plenty to be upset about after Colorado’s 41-7 loss to Northwestern on Saturday night, but it was the reaction afterward that really set him off.
The Buffaloes were overwhelmed across the board in Week 3, and Sanders said he was “furious” with what he saw from some of his players once the game was over. Several Colorado players were seen laughing and joking around after the blowout, and Sanders made it clear he didn’t want any part of that kind of response.
“You know, you did see a couple guys that I just got on, because I don’t understand how much - how you can have joy in a loss, especially when I’m upset,” Sanders told reporters. “And I’m walking right behind you.
I don’t understand that. I can’t never understand that.
Because I want to win every darn thing, and I can’t understand how in the world, do you find joy, or you could find a laughing matter when I’m right behind you walking in? I don’t understand that.
And I addressed it. And I’m gonna put my foot in it, not on it.”
Colorado fell to 2-1 with the defeat, and Sanders’ frustration reflected just how poorly the Buffaloes played against the Big Ten opponent. He said he addressed the behavior directly, making it clear the standard he expects after a loss.
Laughing in a locker room is one thing. Doing it right after a blowout, especially this early in the season, is another.
Colorado now has to get itself turned around quickly, with Big 12 play set to begin in Week 4. The pressure is only going to keep building in Boulder.

Baylors preparation for Colorado got a significant boost with Dave Aranda saying starting quarterback DJ Lagway and several other injured players are expected back for the upcoming game.
