CU Buffs Lose Another Key Player In Growing Exodus

Sebastian Rancik's departure adds to the growing list of key players exiting the CU Buffs, leaving the team facing significant challenges ahead of their next game.

As the Colorado Buffaloes gear up for the final week of the season and look ahead to the 2026-27 campaign, they're facing a significant shake-up. Head coach Tad Boyle has confirmed that forward Sebastian Rancik is heading out via the transfer portal. This move follows the departures of Isaiah Johnson and Bangot Dak, leaving the Buffs without three of their top four scorers and their leading rebounders as they prepare for the College Basketball Crown in Las Vegas.

Boyle emphasized resilience, stating, "They’re going to move on, and we’re going to move on. Onwards and upwards."

The Buffs, with their roster now down to 12, will face Oklahoma on Wednesday night at MGM Grand Arena. While the current lineup is set, more changes could come after the transfer portal opens on April 7.

Despite these departures, standout point guard Barrington Hargress has committed to returning for his senior season. Boyle remains focused on the future, saying, "I’m concerned about the guys that are coming back, and I’m concerned about building next year’s roster to be competitive in the Big 12 Conference."

Rancik, who played in 29 games and started 26, was a key player for the Buffs. He averaged 12.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

After a challenging freshman year, he improved his assist-to-turnover ratio significantly this season. Rancik also demonstrated his prowess at the free throw line, shooting an impressive .860, ranking sixth in program history.

As the Buffs navigate these changes, Boyle's focus remains on crafting a competitive team for the future, with a clear eye on the Big 12 landscape.
